Job summary

Independent Living Systems (ILS) is seeking a Cybersecurity Engineer to protect our information systems and data from cyber threats. The role involves designing, implementing, and maintaining security measures across networks, applications, and infrastructure to safeguard confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

You will monitor for vulnerabilities, respond to incidents, and collaborate on regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Cybersecurity or related field is required.
• 5+ years in Cyber Security duties such as incident detection, response and forensics.
• Strong understanding of network protocols, firewalls, VPNs, and security technologies.
• Experience with security monitoring tools and incident response processes.
• Familiarity with regulatory frameworks such as NIST, ISO 27001, or GDPR.
• Must have at least one Professional Cybersecurity Certification such as CISSP, CISM, CASP or CEH.

Responsibilities

• Develop, configure, and maintain security tools such as firewalls, IDS/IPS, and endpoint protection.
• Conduct regular security assessments, vulnerability scans, and pentests to identify and remediate risks.
• Monitor network traffic and security alerts to detect and respond to incidents.
• Collaborate with IT and development teams to embed security into systems and SDLC.
• Contribute to security policies, procedures, and incident response plans.
• Stay current with evolving threats and regulatory changes to strengthen security posture.
• Provide staff training on security awareness and best practices.
• Assist in design and implementation of user authentication and access controls.

About the Role:

The Cybersecurity Engineer is responsible for protecting our organization's information systems and data from cyber threats. The Cybersecurity Engineer will design, implement, and maintain security measures that safeguard our networks, applications, and infrastructure. The Cybersecurity Engineer will continuously monitor and analyze to detect vulnerabilities and respond to security incidents promptly. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you will ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements. Ultimately, the Cybersecurity Engineer’s efforts will help maintain the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of our digital assets, supporting the organization's overall risk management strategy.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
• 5+ years of work experience in Cyber Security related duties such as incident detection, response and forensics.
• Strong understanding of network protocols, firewalls, VPNs, and security technologies.
• Experience with security monitoring tools and incident response processes.
• Familiarity with regulatory frameworks such as NIST, ISO 27001, or GDPR.
• Must have at least one Professional Cybersecurity Certification such as (CISSP, CISM, CASP, CEH)
• Relevant experience may substitute for educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
• Knowledge of scripting or programming languages such as Python, PowerShell, or Bash.
• Hands-on experience with SIEM tools and automation of security workflows.
• Background in threat intelligence and advanced persistent threat (APT) mitigation.
• Design, implement, and manage systems for user authentication, authorization, and access control, requiring skills in platforms like Okta, Azure AD, SAML, OIDC

• Stay current with emerging cybersecurity threats, technologies, and regulatory changes to proactively enhance security posture.
• Provide training and guidance to staff on security awareness and best practices.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
