Job summary

Vernovis in Columbus, OH is hiring a Senior Cybersecurity Engineer to strengthen security across cloud, applications, endpoints, and identity. You will administer WAFs, manage cloud controls, end­point protection, and SIEM/SOAR, leading incident response efforts.

The role requires hands-on Cloudflare, CrowdStrike, Zscaler, and PCI/GDPR familiarity, with focus on threat hunting and secure DevSecOps practices.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience administering a web application firewall (Cloudflare) and understanding HTTP/HTTPS, DNS, TLS, APIs, OWASP risks, and DDoS.
• Experience implementing security controls in GCP or Azure across identity, networking, storage, and logging.
• Experience with EDR/XDR, SIEM/SOAR, vulnerability management, penetration testing, threat hunting, and incident response.
• Working knowledge of Linux and Windows administration, networking, firewalls, zero trust, hybrid infrastructure, and PCI DSS/GDPR.

Client Overview:

Vernovis partnering with a leading Columbus-based organization seeking a hands‑on Senior Cybersecurity Engineer to strengthen and operate security across cloud, applications, endpoints, infrastructure, and identity.

What You’ll Do:

Administer and improve WAF platforms, including managed and custom rules, rate limiting, bot and API protections, DDoS controls, and investigation of blocked requests, attacks, and false positives.

Implement and maintain security controls across GCP, Azure, and other cloud platforms, including identity, network, storage, and logging configurations.

Manage endpoint security and anti‑ransomware protections, including EDR/XDR platforms such as CrowdStrike and Halcyon.

Operate SIEM/SOAR platforms, including Google SecOps, building alerts, detections, dashboards, and response automation.

Lead security incident investigation, containment, remediation, recovery, threat hunting, forensics, and root cause analysis.

Conduct vulnerability management, automated penetration testing, and attack path analysis across web applications, APIs, cloud environments, and internal/external infrastructure.

Administer zero trust and network security technologies, including Zscaler, firewalls, segmentation, VPN, remote access, VMware, Linux environments, and infrastructure monitoring.

Support PCI DSS, GDPR, security awareness, identity security, audit preparation, risk management, application security, and DevSecOps initiatives.

What Experience You’ll Have:

Hands‑on experience administering a web application firewall such as Cloudflare, with a strong understanding of HTTP/HTTPS, DNS, TLS, APIs, OWASP risks, bot activity, rate limiting, and DDoS.

Experience implementing security controls in GCP, Azure, or another public cloud across identity, networking, storage, and logging.

Experience with EDR/XDR, SIEM/SOAR, vulnerability management, penetration testing, threat hunting, and incident response.

Working knowledge of Linux and Windows administration, networking, firewalls, zero trust, hybrid infrastructure, and compliance frameworks such as PCI DSS and GDPR.

What Experience is Nice to Have:

Direct experience with technologies including Cloudflare, CrowdStrike, Halcyon, Google SecOps, NodeZero, Recorded Future, Zscaler, Zabbix, KnowBe4, and VMware.

Python or other scripting experience for security automation, detections, and SIEM workflow development.

Experience with ethical hacking, application security, digital forensics, OSINT, DevSecOps, IaC, containers, cloud‑native services, AI security, and/or relevant security or cloud certifications.
