Job summary

MediaNews Group is seeking a Cybersecurity Analyst to protect its systems, networks, and data from current and emerging threats. You will monitor security access, perform threat analysis, manage incidents, and ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information assets across our digital portfolio.

Although this is a remote position, candidates must reside in CA, CO, FL, MA, MN, OH, PA, or TX.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field; or equivalent IT security experience.
• 1–3 years of cybersecurity or related IT/security roles.
• Experience with SIEM, EDR, and incident ticketing systems.
• Familiarity with Windows, Linux, and macOS; cloud security best practices.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
• Certifications such as CISSP, CISM, SANS are a plus.

Job description

Summary:

The Cybersecurity Analyst is responsible for protecting the organization's systems, networks, and data from current and emerging cyber threats. This role involves monitoring security access, conducting threat analysis, managing security incidents, and ensuring the continued integrity, confidentiality, and availability of all information assets. The Cybersecurity Analyst works closely with IT operations and development teams to implement preventative measures and respond rapidly to security events.

Although this is a remote position, candidates must reside in CA, CO, FL, MA, MN, OH, PA, or TX.

What you will do:

• Proactively monitor for security events, conduct threat hunting, and analyze IOCs to identify and prevent potential breaches
• Investigate and respond to security alerts; leverage security platforms to identify, triage, and address or escalation security incidents
• Serve as a primary security incident responder, performing rapid triage, containment, eradication, and thorough documentation of security events and breaches
• Respond in a timely manner to emergency and escalated incidents
• Execute regular vulnerability scanning and penetration testing, then prioritize and track the remediation of identified system and network vulnerabilities
• Develop and maintain risk and threat metrics, providing investigation reports when needed
• Administer and maintain core security technologies, ensuring their optimal configuration and effectiveness
• Generate and present security metrics and reports on the organization's security posture while staying current with industry standards and regulatory compliance requirements
• Assist in the planning and implementation of user education and security training
• Leverage LLM technologies to assist with daily analysis and operational workflows
• Understand network protocols and network security architecture

What you will bring:

• Proven ability to work with SIEM tools for log aggregation and analysis
• Experience deploying, configuring, and continuously monitoring endpoint detection and response (EDR) systems
• Proficiency in leveraging incident ticketing systems to efficiently manage the full lifecycle of security alerts (tracking, assignment, documentation, and reporting)
• Familiarity with various operating systems (Windows, Linux, macOS) and cloud security best practices
• Strong knowledge of vulnerability management processes and tools
• Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, with a focus on quick and accurate decision-making under pressure
• Effective written and verbal communication skills for documenting incidents and explaining complex security issues to non-technical stakeholders
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information assurance, MIS or related field, or Associate's degree specialized in IT Security or equivalent experience and relevant certifications
• CISSP, or CISM and/or SANS certification or Cisco-related certifications are a plus
• 1 to 3 years of cybersecurity experience, or relevant desktop support, networking or system administration

Benefits and Compensation:

The salary range is $95,000 - $105,000. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to geographic location, education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc.
