Job summary

The University of Chicago seeks a Cyberinfrastructure Engineer for the MANIAC Lab within the Enrico Fermi Institute. You will build and operate cyberinfrastructure for ATLAS/LHC collaborations, handling storage, compute, and GPU resources in campus data centers and connecting to national grids.

You will work on HTCondor, Kubernetes, Ceph, and AI-enabled workflows, using containerized deployments and GitOps to manage services. Collaboration is key in a distributed team.

Responsibilities

• Operate Linux compute clusters (CPU/GPU), storage, and support servers.
• Manage Ceph distributed storage (Rook on Kubernetes).
• Perform on-site hardware work in campus data centers.
• Maintain monitoring and alerting (Prometheus, Grafana).
• Deploy infrastructure for agent-driven physics analysis (HTCondor, Kubernetes).
• Develop and operate container-based services (Docker, Kubernetes, Helm) and GitOps (Flux).
• Collaborate in a distributed team and document runbooks.
