Job summary

Coalition seeks a specialized cyber insurance underwriter to drive profitable business with brokers in Germany. You will underwrite and manage products across Coalition’s portfolio, serving as a trusted partner to brokers and enterprise clients, with a focus on complex cyber risk in the German market.

This full-time, remote-first role can be based anywhere in Germany. You’ll collaborate with Sales, Product, Claims, CPU, and security teams, travel within Germany as needed, and help scale

Qualifications

• Typically 4+ years of underwriting or related experience, including cyber/technology E&O or similar complex risks.
• Experience serving large multinational clients or accounts with revenues over US$1 billion.
• Experience managing international programs and captive fronting arrangements.
• Ability to analyze risks and explain underwriting decisions clearly to brokers and clients.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite new and renewal business within personal authority and guidelines for the German market.
• Build relationships with cyber specialists and P&C brokers in Germany, acting as a trusted partner.
• Maintain underwriting files and use internal tools in line with governance standards.
• Participate in broker/client meetings, present plans, and outline underwriting rationale.
• Discuss complex coverage and wording, escalating with CPU or leaders when needed.
• Collaborate with Sales, Product, Claims, CPU, and security teams on underwriting decisions.
• Provide feedback to improve guidelines, tools, and processes for scale.
• Travel across Germany to maintain broker relationships and conduct client meetings.

About the role

Coalition is entering an exciting new phase of growth in the German cyber insurance market following our strategic partnership with Allianz. This creates a significant opportunity to support Coalition’s large-market proposition in Germany.

You will join a growing team in a dynamic international environment, as a specialized cyber insurance underwriter, with a strong focus on enterprise / large market level clients.

In this role, you will be responsible for driving profitable business from an assigned group of brokers in Germany and partnering closely with our Sales organization. You will underwrite and manage products across Coalition’s portfolio while serving as a trusted partner to brokers and customers in the German market. Along the way, you will help clients better understand how to protect their businesses, bringing together underwriting expertise, business acumen, and a relationship-first approach.

This is a full time, remote-first position, that can be based anywhere in Germany.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite new and renewal business accounts within the scope of personal underwriting authority, in compliance with underwriting guidelines, risk appetite, insurer specifications, and the specific requirements of the German market.
• Build and deepen relationships with cyber specialists and sophisticated P&C placing brokers in Germany, becoming a trusted underwriting partner in the market.
• Maintain disciplined underwriting files, documentation, and internal tool usage in line with Coalition’s workflows and governance standards.
• Participate directly in broker and client meetings, with responsibility for external presentation, account strategy, and underwriting rationale.
• Handle more nuanced and complex coverage, structure, and wording discussions, including escalating or partnering with CPU and other leaders, as needed, on non-standard issues.
• Partner with Sales, Product, Claims, CPU, and Coalition’s security team to bring technical and portfolio insight into underwriting decisions and broker/client discussions.
• Contribute feedback on underwriting guidelines, tools, and process improvements that help Coalition scale high-quality production underwriting in Germany.
• Regular travel throughout Germany to maintain broker relationships and conduct client meetings, broker training sessions, and similar activities.

Skills and Qualifications

• Typically 4+ years of underwriting or related experience, including meaningful exposure to cyber, technology E&O, or other complex specialty risks.
• Several years of experience in a large-account, multinational, or complex commercial environment serving policyholders with revenues exceeding US$1 billion
• Experience managing international insurance programs and captive fronting agreements
• Ability to analyze underwriting and pricing risks independently and make sound decisions within authority.
• Ability to use risk analysis and underwriting guidelines to explain decisions and rationale confidently to brokers and clients.
• Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship-management skills in a broker-distributed environment.
• Developing fluency and trust in complex coverage structures, delivering client-facing presentations, and conducting discussions focused on messaging and wording.
• Familiarity with the German broker landscape and commercial insurance market.
• Fluent written and verbal communication skills in both English and German are required.
