Opportunities to make an impact with bold thinking are real—and happening daily at Coalition.

About the role

In this role, you will be responsible for driving profitable business from an assigned group of brokers and partnering closely with our Sales organization. You will underwrite and manage products across Coalition’s portfolio, including the enterprise segment, while serving as a trusted partner to brokers and customers. Along the way, you will help clients better understand how to protect their businesses, bringing together underwriting expertise, business acumen and a relationship-first approach.

This is a remote opportunity that can be based anywhere in the Western region of the United States.

Responsibilities
  • Underwrite new and renewal accounts, including the enterprise segment (accounts with ~$1B+ in revenue), while maintaining alignment to underwriting guidelines, risk appetite, and carrier requirements.
  • Shape overall portfolio strategy through management of the broker relationships responsible for placing Coalition’s largest and most complex accounts.
  • Maintain disciplined underwriting files, documentation, and internal tool usage in line with Coalition’s workflows and governance standards.
  • Lead highly complex negotiations on pricing, terms, structures, and exception requests in line with risk appetite, carrier requirements, and close partnership with CPU.
  • Bring deeper technical underwriting judgment to more complex organizations, including risks involving larger networks, subsidiaries, and differentiated operating-company exposures.
  • Provide mentorship to other underwriters, helping raise the bar on underwriting discipline, broker communication, and deal strategy.
  • Partner with Coalition’s security team, Claims, Product, Actuarial, and CPU to address complex risk issues and translate technical, wording, and portfolio considerations into sound underwriting decisions.
  • Represent Underwriting in cross-functional strategy discussions tied to portfolio optimization, product evolution, and market growth.
  • Help shape local or regional underwriting practices, escalation standards, and process improvements for more sophisticated business.
  • Regular travel required for broker management, client meetings, education, and market-facing activity.
Skills and Qualifications
  • 5+ years of underwriting experience, including at least several years handling high-complex cyber and Technology E&O risks for large enterprise business (~$1B+ revenue); additional experience in underwriting miscellaneous professional liability is a plus.
  • Expertise in analyzing complex cyber and Technology E&O risks and understanding their impact on underwriting, pricing, and portfolio outcomes..
  • Ability to combine deep underwriting expertise with broker and client needs to craft creative solutions and explain rationale credibly at senior levels.
  • Excellent executive presence, presentation skills, and comfort leading complex broker and client conversations in high-stakes settings.
  • Significant experience mentoring underwriters and influencing underwriting culture, standards, and operating practices.
