Job summary

Gromelski and Associates, Inc. (GAI) seeks a Cyber Systems Security Engineer to lead cyber security efforts for DoD assets and to drive the integration of modern cyber solutions ensuring resilience and mission superiority. You will translate security needs into engineering tasks and mentor teammates.

You will work in Manassas, VA with some remote work allowed, enjoy relocation assistance, and participate in a competitive benefits package.

Qualifications

  • Designing, implementing, and maintaining security controls in line with RMF/SRG/STIG.
  • Experience with Linux/Windows secure configurations and automated testing.
  • Able to translate security requirements into engineering tasks and mentor teammates.
  • Willingness to obtain DoD 8570 baseline certification within 6 months.

Key service areas include Engineering Design and Documentation; Software Development and Testing; System Integration, Testing and Evaluation; Lab Management and Field Installation; Integrated Logistics Support, Training Development and Delivery, Multimedia Support, and Technical System Support.

Cyber Systems Security Engineer

As a Cyber Systems Security Engineer, you will take a leadership role in enhancing cybersecurity. You’ll drive the development and integration of modern cyber solutions that protect and empower critical Department of Defense (DoD) assets. We are integrating state‑of‑the‑art cybersecurity solutions into mission‑critical systems to ensure resilience, integrity, and continued superiority under the sea and across domains. Provide Cyber engineering expertise, while understanding architectural need and finding cyber solutions that can fit that need.

Basic Qualifications
  • Designing, implementing, and maintaining security controls to protect system confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
  • Leverage guidance from Risk Management Framework (RMF), Security Requirements Guides (SRG), and Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG) to advance cyber controls in system security architecture.
  • Integrating secure configuration tools and processes for Linux and Windows environments.
  • Performing security assessments and validating configurations through automated testing and tailored solutions.
  • Collaborating across teams on secure system and network design that balances mission goals and cyber protection.
  • Leading technical meetings, translating security requirements into actionable engineering tasks, and mentoring team members.
  • Experience or understanding of basic networking switch/router/firewall/IDS concepts.
  • Experience in researching new Cybersecurity capabilities, performing trade studies, and providing expertise to peers and leadership.
  • Experience with Linux systems and large system development.
  • Experience with basic networking switch/router/firewall/IDS concepts.
  • Experience developing Cyber Security Solutions (in any form) as a team.
Desired skills
  • A desire to create new network and system capability and develop from design.
  • Cloud experience such as Kubernetes and containers.
  • Creative thinker with strong analytical, problem‑solving skills, and a continuous learning mindset.
  • Knowledge of containers and securing the infrastructure through the cloud.
  • Experience in agile methodologies that highlight Atlassian tools, namely Jira and Confluence.
  • Experience in model‑based system engineering concepts (MBSE).
  • Proficiency with Cyber best practice security concepts, models, and methods (e.g., zero trust architecture and maturity model, advanced authentication methods, STIG coding practices).
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with internal members and external customers.
  • Linux experience in scripting and/or development (e.g., Python, C, C++, Rust).
  • Strong communication and leadership skills to engage internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Possess (or must obtain within 6 months of hiring) an approved DoD 8570 baseline certification for IAT Level II (Security+, GSEC, etc.).
Additional Requirements
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related engineering or IT field with 3 years of relevant experience or master’s degree and 2+ years of relevant cyber experience; Or 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Must be able to obtain and keep a DoD Secret Clearance which means you must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Proactive/self‑starter. Task driven with ability to work independently.
  • Team player that takes ownership and develops relationships that foster team success.
Job Details

Full‑Time Employee, 40 hours/week. Some remote work will be allowed.

Benefits: We offer a competitive benefit package.

Salary Range: $120,000 - $150,000.

Start Date: Negotiable.

Job Location: Manassas, VA. (Relocation Assistance Available).
