Job summary

Independent Bank is seeking a Cyber Security and GRC Intern to gain hands-on experience with the Information Security team. You will support governance, risk, and compliance efforts while developing foundations in monitoring, documentation, and controls.

You will work alongside experienced team members and gain exposure to how cybersecurity practices protect the Bank's information and systems. Mentoring and collaboration with business partners are included.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as in a team setting.
• Foundational understanding of operating systems, networks, cybersecurity concepts.
• Currently enrolled or recently graduated in Cybersecurity, IT, CS or related field.

Responsibilities

• Assist with reviewing security alerts and ticket queues and route issues.
• Maintain security procedures, inventories, evidence, and knowledge resources.
• Support audit responses and internal security questionnaires by gathering information.
• Assist with access, configuration, and security control checks using documented procedures.
• Participate in security awareness, risk assessment, and compliance activities.

As a Cyber Security and GRC (Governance, Risk & Compliance) Intern, you will gain hands-on experience working with the Information Security team at Independent Bank. You will support cybersecurity and information security governance efforts while developing foundational skills in security monitoring, risk management, compliance, documentation, and security controls. You will work alongside experienced team members and gain exposure to how cybersecurity practices help protect the Bank's information and systems.

What You Will Do:

• Assist with reviewing security alerts, vulnerability findings, and ticket queues, and route issues to the appropriate team member.
• Help maintain security procedures, inventories, evidence, and knowledge resources under the guidance of the Information Security team.
• Support responses to audit requests, technical questionnaires, and internal security questions by gathering approved information.
• Assist with basic access, configuration, and security control checks using documented procedures and approved tools.
• Participate in security awareness, incident response, risk assessment, and compliance activities as assigned.
• Collaborate with Information Security, IT, Risk Management, and other business areas to support the protection of sensitive information.
• Protect confidential information, maintain accurate documentation, and promptly escalated suspected security incidents or policy concerns.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
