Job summary

Apogee Engineering seeks a Cyber Security Engineer to support the V-22 JPO, engineering, implementing, and sustaining cybersecurity across program systems and mission environments. The role collaborates with government and industry stakeholders to meet DoD requirements, achieve/maintain ATO, and support secure ops throughout the system lifecycle.

The position is located in Patuxent River, MD on-site with 10% travel. Candidates must hold an active Secret clearance and DoD 8140 qualifications.

Qualifications

• Must be a US citizen.
• Active Secret Clearance is required.
• DoD 8140 qualifications.
• Bachelor's in a related field plus 12 years of relevant experience, including 5 years in the DoD.
• 12 years of overall experience in the field.
• Preferred: Master's or PhD in a related field with 5 DoD years of experience.
• Current Tier 5 special-sensitive eligibility and IAT Level III or IAM Level III within one year.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert-level cybersecurity engineering support for DoD platforms, sensors, and weapon systems across the lifecycle.
• Develop and maintain RMF assessment and authorization documentation (IATT, ATC, ATO) and translate NIST 800-53 controls.
• Identify threats, vulnerabilities, attack scenarios, and supply-chain risks; recommend mitigations to leadership.
• Document system and network architectures and support technical reviews, reviews, and IPTs.

Overview

Apogee is seeking a Cyber Security Engineer to support the V-22 JPO by engineering, implementing, and sustaining cybersecurity capabilities across program systems and mission environments. This role partners with government and industry stakeholders to ensure systems meet DoD cybersecurity requirements, achieve/maintain Authorization to Operate (ATO), and support secure operations throughout the system lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert-level cybersecurity engineering support for DoD acquisition platforms, sensors, weapon systems, and systems of systems, applying RMF, Systems Security Engineering, network engineering, cyber-resiliency, and technical-interface principles throughout the acquisition lifecycle.
• Develop and maintain RMF assessment and authorization documentation, including IATT, ATC, and ATO packages; translate NIST SP 800-53 requirements into tailored security controls; and implement system-specific cybersecurity and continuous-monitoring processes.
• Identify and assess cyber threats, vulnerabilities, attack scenarios, supply-chain risks, and residual risk; recommend mitigations to senior DoD and Air Force leadership; and evaluate proposed designs and vendor solutions for compliance with cybersecurity and program-protection requirements.
• Document system and network architectures; analyze interoperability requirements and Interface Control Documents; incorporate cybersecurity requirements into SOWs, CDRLs, SRDs, Program Protection Plans, and anti-tamper plans; and support technical reviews, working groups, and IPTs.

Qualifications

Minimum Experience:

Citizenship: Must be a US citizen

Clearance: Active Secret Clearance

Certifications:

• Information Assurance Technical level 2 (level 3 within a year of start date)
• DoD 8140

Education: Bachelor's in a related field plus 12 years of relevant experience, including 5 years in the DoD.

Additional Requirements:
