Job summary

Tampa Electric Company is seeking a Cyber Security Analyst for Security Operations at the Bearss Operations Center in Florida. The role focuses on monitoring security systems, ensuring procedures are followed daily, weekly, monthly, and annually, and providing expert support within a team to protect enterprise assets.

The candidate will detect, analyze, and respond to suspicious activity across TECO/Emera networks while maintaining compliance with NERC CIP, SOX, PCI, and other standards.

Qualifications

• Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent; preferred Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field.
• One information security certification or ability to obtain within one year (e.g., ISC2, GIAC, ISACA, CompTIA, e-Council).
• 5 years of related Cyber Security or IT experience; associate’s degree may substitute for one year.
• Knowledge of Windows, Mac OS, Linux/Unix security; endpoint, server, and network security.
• Proficiency with security systems: firewalls, IDS/IPS, antivirus, SIEM, incident response, network flow analysis, and DLP.
• Familiarity with NERC CIP, SOX, PCI, NIST; strong analytical and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Translate applicable standards into systemic solutions to ensure compliance and assist in audits.
• Evaluate effectiveness of security controls; design and maintain tools for Cyber Fusion Center/NERC CIP program.
• Monitor and respond to threats from monitoring tools; determine anomalies and escalate when needed.
• Conduct digital forensics, collect evidence for audits, and perform malware analysis for hunting.
• Monitor external event sources for actionable intelligence.
• Develop and maintain threat and risk metrics, security processes, and procedures.

Position Concept

The Cyber Security Specialist Associate supports monitoring of TECO's information security systems, ensuring procedures are followed daily, weekly, monthly, and annually. The role provides expert‑level support within a team environment for systems that protect enterprise assets, detects, analyzes, and responds to suspicious activity across TECO/Emera networks, and maintains compliance with NERC CIP, SOX, PCI, and other regulatory standards.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

1. Translate all applicable standards into systemic solutions to enable compliance, coordinate actions to maintain internal and regulatory standards, and assist in audit responses (20%).
2. Evaluate effectiveness of security controls, recommend countermeasures, and design and maintain tools and technologies for the Cyber Fusion Center or NERC CIP program (20%).
3. Monitor and respond to security threats from monitoring tools, determine if anomalies indicate compromises, and secure escalation when needed (15%).
4. Conduct digital forensics, collect evidence for fraud, crime, and regulatory audits, and perform malware analysis for hunting (15%).
5. Monitor external event sources for actionable intelligence (15%).
6. Develop and maintain threat and risk metrics, security processes, and procedures (15%).

Relationships

Key Internal: Engage multiple IT groups and business units—including Energy Supply, Energy Delivery, and Regulatory Affairs—with communication across all management levels.

Key External: Engage vendors, contractors, regulatory agencies, law enforcement, industry associations, and utility partners.

Qualifications

Education

• Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related discipline.

Licenses/Certifications

• Required: One information security professional certification or ability to obtain within one year (e.g., (ISC)², GIAC, ISACA, CompTIA, e‑Council).
• Preferred: ITIL v3 and one or more additional certifications such as CEH, CISA, CISSP, etc.

Related Experience

• Required: 5 years of related Cyber Security or IT experience; an associate’s degree may substitute for one year of experience.
• Preferred: 6–8 years of experience for senior roles.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)

• Good working knowledge of operating system security (Windows, Mac OS, Linux/Unix), endpoint, server, and network security.
• Proficient in security systems such as firewalls, IDS/IPS, antivirus, SIEM, incident response, network flow analysis, and DLP.
• Experience with forensic investigation techniques, packet analysis, and malware analysis.
• Familiarity with regulatory compliance (NERC CIP, SOX, PCI, NIST).
• Strong analytical, risk assessment, and communication skills.
