Job summary

Motion in Birmingham, AL is seeking a Cyber Defense Engineer II to work across cloud security, IAM, DR, and DevSecOps, with day-to-day duties in threat hunting, incident response, and security tooling.

You will join a lean, on-site team that analyzes logs from SIEMs, monitors cyber assets, and coordinates disaster recovery testing, reporting findings, and maintaining SOPs.

Ideal candidate holds a bachelor's in CS or related field with 3–5 years of experience and a strong analytical mindset.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or related field.
• 3–5 years of related experience.
• Experience operating SIEM platforms and analyzing log data.
• Experience with EDR, content filtering, and other security toolsets.
• Experience with cyber asset monitoring and asset management tools.
• Strong analytical and investigative skills.
• Comfortable in a lean, shared-coverage environment.

Responsibilities

• Supports proactive threat hunting and investigates anomalies across the environment.
• Operates SIEMs and analyzes log data to drive detections.
• Participates in security operations center monitoring, incident response, and insider risk investigations.
• Supports cyber recovery execution and disaster recovery testing as needed.
• Documents findings, SOPs, and playbooks for threat hunting and detection processes.
• Participates in the security on-call rotation as needed.
• Maintains cyber asset monitoring and asset management tooling.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
