Job summary

Bala Consulting Engineers Inc. is seeking a Commissioning Engineer / Project Manager for our Arlington, VA office. You will manage commissioning activities for mechanical and controls systems on diverse projects including data centers and high-end facilities.

The role requires 5–7 years in commissioning or related fields, with a bachelor’s degree in engineering and preferred professional licenses. Some travel and remote work are included as part of a hybrid schedule.

Qualifications

• 5-7 years’ experience in commissioning or adjacent field (construction, owner’s representative, etc.)
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or other relevant field
• PE/CEM/CBCP/BCxP preferred
• Data center experience preferred
• Experience managing projects and people
• Strong interpersonal and team building skills
• Strong technical writing skills
• Knowledge of building codes
• Knowledge of industry best practices and the latest technologies for mechanical / controls systems commissioning
• Knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems a plus

Responsibilities

• Serve as a project manager on select projects in the Cx Group. Project types include data centers, new builds, renovations, fit-outs and infrastructure upgrades, LEED Cx, Energy Code Cx and Retro Cx.
• The CxPM role is client facing. Responsibilities include reviewing RFPs, attending pre-bid walkthroughs and writing proposals, test scripts, and reports.
• Provide planning, execution and day-to-day management of internal teams and clients.
• Provide management functions including scope, client management, scheduling, and financials.
• Assist other CxPMs across all Bala locations.
• Travel to other Bala offices and project sites; flexibility for varied hours as needed.
• Participate in staffing, performance reviews and growth initiatives.
• Support marketing/business development by identifying opportunities and developing fees.
