Job summary

BuilderLab in the Dallas area seeks a Data Center Commissioning Engineer to join our team, focusing on quality inspections of MEP systems and testing installed equipment for hyperscale data center projects.

You will support the Commissioning Manager, manage schedules, perform pre-functional and functional tests, and coordinate with engineers, contractors, and clients to resolve issues while ensuring safety and quality standards are met on site.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 2–3 years in data center construction or commissioning MEP systems.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC, electrical, and control systems.
  • Experience with MEP commissioning management and reading drawings.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, and project management tools.
  • Able to work independently and in a team, with strong communication.

  • Coordinate and track commissioning activities, including pre-functional and functional testing.
  • Collaborate with engineers, contractors, and clients to resolve issues and maintain progress.
  • Conduct site inspections and verify system installations and performance.
  • Manage project deliverables, ensuring timely completion and quality standards.
  • Develop and implement commissioning plans and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate project records and provide progress reports.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
  • Perform onsite mechanical and electrical testing to verify MEP operation per SOOs/OPRs.
  • Review testing progress on site and coordinate issue resolution with construction field team.
  • Provide installation insights to align construction and commissioning critical paths.

Data Center Cx Engineer

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Data Center Commissioning Engineer to join our growing team. In this role, you will support the project commissioning manager by providing quality inspections on MEP systems and performing testing on installed equipment. Our team will be commissioning a sub-set of the MEP system for a hyperscale data center client to enable their use of new AI technologies.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the Commissioning Manager in developing and managing commissioning schedules, checklists, and resources.
  • Coordinate and track commissioning activities, including pre-functional and functional testing.
  • Collaborate with engineers, contractors, and clients to resolve technical issues and ensure project progress.
  • Conduct site inspections and verify system installations and performance.
  • Manage and track project deliverables, ensuring timely completion and adherence to quality standards.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of commissioning plans and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate project records and provide regular progress reports to the Commissioning Manager.
  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
  • Perform onsite mechanical and electrical testing to ensure that MEP equipment operates per the SOOs & OPRs.
  • Regularly walk the site to review testing progress and coordinate issue resolution with the construction field team.
  • Provide installation insights to the construction field team to align construction and commissioning critical paths for substantial completion of the project.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related field) or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in data center construction and/or commissioning MEP systems
  • Strong understanding of building systems, HVAC, electrical, and control systems
  • Experience with MEP systems and Commissioning Management
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Project)
  • Proficient in Google Workspace Suite (gDoc, gSheet, gSlides)
  • Proficient in Cx softwares (ACC, CxPlanner, CxAlloy, Facility Grid, BuildingTest)
  • Valid driver's license
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with MEP equipment startup (RTU, BMS, Switchgear, Generators, etc.)
  • Experience with building automation systems (BAS) or power monitoring systems (PMS)
  • Experience with project management software (e.g., Procore, ACC/BIM, PlanGrid)
Location and Work Arrangement
  • Site location - DFW Metro
  • Willingness to travel weekly or relocate locally for the duration of the project
Salary And Benefits
  • Competitive salary range: $80,000 - $100,000 (depending on experience) with additional bonus based on performance
