Job summary

South Carolina Department of Social Services is seeking a CWS Case Worker - Investigation to conduct timely initial investigations and provide services to children and families at risk. You will engage with families, partners, and law enforcement to ensure safety and permanency.

The role requires a foundational degree in social services and ongoing certification/training, with on-call duties and strong documentation practices across CAPSS and FAST-enabled assessments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with option for substitution by advanced degree or experience.
• One year of related experience can substitute for the degree in some cases.
• Master's degree may substitute for required work experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform case management in child welfare investigations per DSS policy and GPS Model.
• Conduct timely initial investigations of reports of child abuse or neglect.
• Engage families and collaborate with law enforcement and legal when safety concerns exist.
• Develop safety plans and conduct safety assessments using FAST tool.
• Maintain accurate case records and CAPSS documentation within required timeframes.
• Complete required child welfare certification and annual training.
• Protect PII and ensure security of agency networks and data.

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Behavioral Science, or Social Science

Bachelor's Degree in any field with 1 year related experience

Master's Degree may substitute for required experience
