Job summary

Hillis-Carnes Engineering Associates in Chantilly, VA seeks a CWI/Structural Steel Inspector to support inspection and testing of steel during erection on commercial sites. You will document findings and communicate with contractors, technicians and project managers daily.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years' experience with construction and structural steel erection.
• AWS CWI or ICC Welding certification.
• ICC High Strength Bolting certification.
• Level II in PT, MT and UT preferred.
• Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
• Pre-employment requirements must be met.
• Reliable vehicle suitable for use on construction sites.
• Able to work nights and weekends as required.
• Able to lift/move up to 60-80 pounds.
• Able to interpret engineering and construction plans/specifications.
• Knowledge of AWS and AISC specifications desired.
• Knowledge of other trades such as soils, aggregates, concrete, fireproofing, EIFS is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and test structural steel during erection on commercial building sites.
• Perform observations, inspections and tests and document findings per engineering practice.
• Communicate daily with site contractors, technicians and project managers.

As a CWI/Structural Steel Inspector in our Chantilly, VA office, you will work collaboratively to inspect and test structural steel during erection on general commercial building sites. The successful candidate will have a thorough understanding of building construction practices. Daily communication is required with site contractors, other technicians, and project managers; strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for this position. Some responsibilities include but are not limited to- performing observations, inspections and tests of building construction projects followed by documenting findings in accordance with accepted engineering practice.

Starting salary commensurate with experience.
