Job summary

Construction Material Testing seeks a Certified Welding Inspector II to manage accept/reject decisions on structural steel and welded assemblies in line with AWS D1.1 and related codes. You will witness performance qualification tests, review WPS/PQR, and direct NDT activities.

You will sign inspection reports relied upon by the engineer of record and the building official, oversee testing and NDT interpretation, and travel between fabricators and erection sites as required.

Qualifications

• Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) with 2+ years inspecting under it.
• Working command of AWS D1.1 and at least one of D1.5, D1.8, ASME IX, or API 1104.
• ICC structural steel and bolting special inspector certification preferred (sponsored if not held).

Responsibilities

• Perform and sign visual weld inspection with accept/reject authority to the governing code.
• Review WPS, PQR, and welder qualification records.
• Witness welder performance qualification tests.
• Direct and interpret nondestructive testing.
• Disposition indications and write repair instructions.
• Inspect fabrication shops and field erection, including high-strength bolting and base plate grouting where certified.
• Write inspection reports and nonconformance reports for the engineer of record and the building official.
