Job Description: Surgical Technologist

We are seeking a qualified Surgical Technologist to join our team. The role involves preparing and maintaining the sterile field, assisting during surgical procedures, and ensuring the availability of necessary supplies and equipment.

1. Review surgical preference lists to clarify routines and update as needed.
2. Utilize resources to obtain supplies for procedures.
3. Check tables for complete readiness, ensuring all items are present.
4. Obtain physician’s special instruments and sutures prior to procedures.
5. Handle supplies and equipment properly, demonstrating knowledge and dexterity.
6. Assist with suctioning, retraction, skin closure, suturing, and irrigation under surgeon supervision.
7. Circulate for operative procedures under RN supervision.
8. Assist with site care and cleanse the operative site post-procedure.
9. Connect drainage tubes to appropriate devices.

Required Skills & Experience:

• Minimum of 2 years of CVOR experience.
• Effective communication with physicians, families, and hospital staff.
• Sound judgment and scientific knowledge.
• Competency in skills through hospital training.
• Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations.
• Knowledge of age- and culture-specific patient care and education.
• Responsibility for surgical instruments and equipment handling.

Schedule Details:

Duration: 13 weeks

Shift: 4x10-hour shifts, 6:15 AM - 4:45 PM; includes call responsibilities: weekly first call, possible second call, weekend call every 5-6 weeks, and overnight calls following weekend calls. Transplant calls occur 2-3 times every 4 weeks, only for heart transplants.
