Job Responsibilities

• Checks daily assignment.
• Reviews surgical preference lists to clarify surgical routine and update preference lists as needed.
• Utilizes resources to obtain needed supplies for the case.
• Checks table(s) for complete readiness for each procedure, ensuring all items needed are present.
• Obtains physician’s special instruments and sutures prior to the start of the case.
• Demonstrates knowledge and dexterity in handling special supplies and equipment, ensuring proper functioning.
• Knowledgeable of the specifics of surgical procedures and able to perform tasks in an organized and efficient manner.
• Under the surgeon's supervision, assists with suctioning, retraction, skin closure, suture cutting, and wound irrigation.
• Circulates for operative procedures under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
• Assists with site care at the end of procedures.
• Cleanses the operative site.
• Connects drainage tubes to appropriate devices.

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum of 2 years of experience, specifically in CVOR.
• Contact with physicians, families, and hospital personnel related to patient care.
• Sound judgment and knowledge of scientific principles.
• Competency in skills through hospital-provided instruction.
• Ability to maintain composure in stressful patient situations to respond effectively.
• Ability to provide age- and culturally-specific patient care and education.
• Effective communication with peers and maintenance of confidentiality.

Schedule Notes

Duration: 13 weeks. Shift: 4x10 hours, 6:15 AM - 4:45 PM. Call responsibilities include one 1st call per week (end of shift until 11:00 pm) and possibly one 2nd call per week (end of shift until 7:00 pm). Weekend call occurs every 5-6 weekends from 3:00 pm on Friday to 6:15 am on Monday. The following week includes overnight calls Monday through Thursday (11:00 pm - 6:15 am). Transplant call involves 2-3 12-hour calls per 4 weeks, applicable only for heart transplants. Required: 2 years of CVOR experience.
