Job summary

Institute for Nonviolence Chicago is seeking a Manager of Community Violence Intervention to oversee CVI street outreach and victim services in Back of the Yards and Brighton Park. You will supervise staff, coordinate across departments, and implement violence reduction strategies in collaboration with PBMR and local partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in human services field (i.e., sociology, social work, etc.) or currently enrolled in a bachelor’s program.
• At least two years of experience supervising staff, preferably individuals with a history of justice involvement.
• At least five years of experience in Community Violence Intervention (CVI) or related field.
• Basic knowledge of the drivers of violence in Back of the Yards & Brighton Park communities.
• Demonstrated commitment to professional development and to bettering yourself.
• Ability to take initiative, work as a self-starter and lead by example.
• Inclusive leadership style based on empathy, patience, equity, accountability, and relating well to diverse groups.

Responsibilities

• Lead regular meetings with leadership and collaborate on CVI initiatives; communicate daily with supervisor to ensure consistency across neighborhoods.
• Engage in cross-departmental communication to support collaboration across teams, information sharing and transparency.
• Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders in Back of the Yards & Brighton Park (PBMR, New Life Centers).
• Represent the organization at external stakeholder meetings including law enforcement and elected officials.
• Oversee outreach and victim services staff, conduct annual evaluations and provide corrective action as needed.
• Oversee scheduling of trainings, regular team meetings, and professional development activities.
• Oversee staff monthly schedule to ensure fairness and equity; attend budget meetings and review expenses.
• Manage the participant journey for those receiving services, ensuring wraparound services and progress.
• Support cultivation of Nonviolence Chicago leaders with knowledge of community dynamics.
• Participate in hiring for outreach and victim services staff.
• Lead safety-focused culture; oversee safety protocols, crisis prevention, de-escalation, and training.
• Respond to critical incidents 24/7 according to established protocols.
• Maintain case notes and logs; ensure data collection and reporting align with grants.
