Job summary

U.S.VETS, through the California Veterans Health Initiative (CVHI), seeks a Specialist to manage grant finances, ensure compliance, and oversee billing and reporting. The role reports to the National Mental Health Support Coordinator and involves supervising key staff and coordinating with 3rd-party payers.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's degree and at least 5 years' experience in grant budgeting, reporting, and HIPAA-compliant data handling, with preference for veterans-focused work.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university with at least 5 years of relevant experience.
• At least 5 years of experience working with 3rd-party payers, coding, billing, posting, and adjudication of claims
• At least 3 years of experience collecting, analyzing, and reporting financial data
• Demonstrated knowledge about HIPAA and related health information laws
• Excellent customer service and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and in teams, anticipate problems, and adapt to staff and client needs
• Experience working with military populations and/or veterans preferred
• Valid driver’s license and ability to meet insurance standards if applicable

Responsibilities

• Ensures program compliance with funding agreements and monitors grant fiscal operations and budgeting.
• Coordinates managed care billing and maintains financial records for accuracy and regulatory compliance.
• Establishes and monitors policies for grant operations, risk management, and business continuity.
• Collaborates with staff on financial tracking, trends, and reporting.
• Supervises the Director of Clinical Services – CVHI, Intake Specialist, and co-supervises Outreach Specialist.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
