Specter is hiring a hands-on CV/ML camera test engineer to measure how camera and optics choices affect AI model performance. You will design, run, and analyze controlled experiments in lab and field settings, collaborating across camera, CV/ML, software and hardware teams to drive data-backed camera decisions.

You’ll reason from first principles about optics, sensors, illumination and image quality, reporting confidence and limitations and supporting EVT/DVT/PVT validation efforts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
• 2+ years of hardware test, validation or experimental work.
• Strong Linux command line proficiency (SSH, logs, file and process management).
• Proficient in Python for scripting, data processing and analysis.
• First-principles mindset: reason from physics to predict results and design experiments.
• Able to work in lab and outdoor field environments, including night and bad weather.

Responsabilités

• Form testable hypotheses from optics, sensor physics, radiometry and illumination.
• Design controlled experiments with defined variables, controls, sample sizes and success criteria.
• Execute experiments comparing sensors, lenses, ISP settings, IR illumination and focus.
• Build and maintain lab and outdoor test setups with known distances and lighting.
• Run field campaigns across sites and times, maintaining metadata and ground truth.
• Process captured video through CV/ML models and evaluation tools; report results.
• Script data captures, camera settings, and analysis for reproducibility.
• Isolate causes of performance changes using statistics and write clear reports.
