Job summary

Buckland in the United States is seeking a Senior Customs Compliance Specialist to support FTA qualification of goods and ensure compliance for major clients.

The role requires strong communication, documentation, and the ability to travel to other office locations in CAD/USA/MEX as needed. A Bachelor’s degree in SCM/International Business and 10 years of experience are required; proficiency with MS Office is essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain/International Business or related field.
  • US Customs broker’s license and/or CCS designation preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of qualification experience with FTA Rules of Origin knowledge.

  • Lead or assist Trade Program projects, audits and verification programs; complete FTA determinations and reviews.

What You’ll Be Doing

This position is responsible for assisting on compliance projects for major clients by providing Free Trade Agreement (FTA) qualification of goods. The role requires professional communication with team members, clients, suppliers and government representatives.

You will be responsible for
  • Identify solicitation and classification workload needed for qualification.
  • Assist or Lead Trade Program projects, audits and verification programs and complete FTA determinations and reviews.
  • Review, maintain, and reinforce database integrity by utilizing various client and provided software to organize and manage workload.
  • Create reports and assist with drafting compliance processes and related work instructions.
  • Manage escalated client matters, support brokers and clients with FTA documentation.
  • Liaison with significant business partners on Customs compliance issues providing effective and diplomatic internal and external customer service.
  • Above average written and verbal communication skills.
  • Showcase your skills with Microsoft utilizing programs such as Excel, Word, Teams, and Outlook.
  • Identify potential challenges/risks and solve problems efficiently or work with Leaders for a solution.
  • Foster a fast‑paced culture leading by example in terms of accountability and continuous improvement within the team.
  • Effectively prioritize and manage the team multiple and personal tasks to meet KPIs and deadlines.
  • Provide the highest level of customer service by leading and mentoring, fostering a positive and productive work environment and resolving escalated issues as needed.
What We Need From You
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Supply Chain Management/Transportation/International Business, or related discipline.
  • US Customs broker’s license and/or CCS designation preferred but not required.
  • Minimum 10 years of qualification experience with expert knowledge of FTA Rules of Origin and RVC calculations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools with advanced knowledge of Excel and Access (preferred).
  • Professional and mature demeanour.
  • Good research and analytical skills with strong attention to detail and organization skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Must be legally eligible to work for the Company at all times.
  • Valid Passport and ability and desire to occasionally travel to other office locations in CAD/USA/MEX.
