My client is seeking an experienced Customs Compliance Specialist to join their team in Charlotte, North Carolina. This key role is responsible for ensuring compliance with U.S. Customs laws and global import/export regulations.
This is an opportunity to join a global forwarder, represented in 75+ countries, offering great progression potential.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Monitor and enforce import/export regulations, ensuring compliance with U.S. and international requirements.
- Maintain accurate documentation and update compliance procedures as needed.
- Coordinate international shipments and collaborate with U.S. Customs and port authorities.
- Ensure proper product classification in accordance with HTS, EAR, and ECCN codes.
- Provide internal stakeholders with expert guidance on logistics and regulatory matters.
- Supervise global trade compliance activities, including adherence to Incoterms.
- Support TSCA compliance, assisting brokers with documentation and validation.
- Drive process improvement initiatives and deliver training and data analysis related to compliance.
- Prepare and distribute monthly performance metrics for brokers, freight forwarders, and internal teams.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with service providers and external partners.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous experience in international trade, U.S. Customs compliance, and cross-border operations.
- Proven track record in brokerage management and freight forwarding.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. import/export regulations and classification standards (HTS, EAR, ECCN).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and SAP ERP systems.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interact across all organizational levels.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated with solid analytical problem-solving abilities.
- Comfortable working independently and managing multiple tasks and priorities.
- Willing to travel occasionally as required.
