City of Cleveland is seeking a Customer Support Associate – Meter Operations to support field crews and customers. This role participates in the Civil Service Examination process, with placement on an eligible list for future openings.
Under supervision, you will review meter discrepancies, process reading and repair requests, monitor AMR alerts, and coordinate customer appointments. Requires high school diploma and strong English; experience in a high-volume office is preferred.

WRITTEN EXAMINATION: The exam may be computerized, or a traditional pencil and paper designed to test the objectives of the duties and minimum qualifications of the classification.
Under supervision, reviews meter-related discrepancies (\u0022exceptions\u0022) identified as a result of field activities assigned to utility work crews against the meter reading, meter number, and meter configuration. Reviews and completes daily assigned meter reading, investigation, and repair requests. Monitors cut cable alerts in the Automated Meter Reading (AMR) system. Contacted by customers to schedule special appointments with repair workers as needed using the cut cable report, crossed meter requests, or other information obtained about areas surrounding the meter. Updates non-AMR meter information in the billing system as requested and approved. Provides backup coverage to Radio Dispatchers. Performs other duties as requested.
High School Diploma or GED required. Associate’s degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field from an accredited college or university is preferred. Two (2) years of full-time paid experience handling telephone and/or walk-in customers, with an emphasis on customer service in a high-volume office environment, is required. Experience working in a water utility, including tasks related to automated meter reading, is preferred. Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is required. Strong verbal and written communication skills, including fluency in English, are required; the ability to speak a second language is preferred. Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
An applicant who is a graduate of the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) and is participating in an open competitive entrance-level examination, as determined by the Commission, shall receive an additional five (5) points upon achieving a passing score, as established in the examination announcement. Applicants must provide acceptable proof of graduation from a CMSD school at the time of application to qualify for this credit.
Veterans' preference will be awarded, when applicable, to eligible veterans in accordance with Civil Service Rules 4.40E, 4.40F and 4.40G. Proof of active service or a DD Form 214, must be presented to the Commission at the time of filing application for the examination in which credit is sought in order to qualify for veterans' credit. If the applicant has received an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions that applicant shall receive an additional five (5) points added to their raw score on the examination; or ten (10) points are added to their raw score on the examination if applicant’s supporting documentation indicates more than fifteen percent (15%) service‑connected disability. NOTE: Only DD Form 214 (long form) or an official armed service document indicating type of discharge or separation and the dates of active service will be accepted as proof of active service.
