Job Overview:
Provides prompt and friendly service to customers and assists them when necessary. Operates a cash register and performs related duties. Responsible for bookkeeping, front-end conditions, customer service issues, refunds, cash handling, office accounting, lottery, and MoneyGram sales. Regulates Checker and Courtesy Clerks' breaks, lunches, and overall flow of the front end.
Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service, exhibiting caring, concern, and patience in all interactions, treating customers as the most important people in the store.
- Manages all front-end operations and bookkeeping.
- Operates cash register accurately, scans all merchandise, redeems promotional coupons, food stamps, WIC checks, rain checks, handles cash, checks, EFT transactions, in-store charges, discounts, and issues receipts and coupons.
- Follows policies on sales of tobacco, liquor, and lottery tickets, and complies with local, state, and federal guidelines regarding WIC and food stamps.
- Knows item values, lookup numbers, department numbers, and features of items for which money is received.
- Communicates clearly via intercom or telephone system.
- Reviews weekly store ads for price changes and sale items.
- Maintains cleanliness of the register area and office, adheres to “5S” standards, ensures supplies are available, and helps maintain store appearance.
- Balances office and reports problems to supervisor.
- May process cash refunds or exchanges for returned merchandise.
- Adheres to company policies and store guidelines.
- Supervises check lane lines and customer service status, issues breaks and lunches to Checkers and Courtesy Clerks, instructs, assigns, reviews, and plans work, maintains standards, and coordinates activities.
- Has authority to recommend disciplinary actions.
Job Requirements:
- Ability to follow detailed written or verbal instructions and deal with concrete variables.
- Ability to perform arithmetic involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions, write identifying information, and request supplies verbally or in writing.
- Ability to work varying shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
