Job Title: Phlebotomy Technician

Job Description Summary

Responsible for preparing the donor, donor area, and equipment for the pheresis process.

Main Responsibilities

1. Prepares the autopheresis machine for the pheresis process.
2. Monitors the donor and the pheresis process, responds to specific alarms or signals during the process.
3. Disconnects the donor when the process is complete.
4. Maintains alertness to any reactions the donor may have during or after the process and notifies appropriate staff.
5. Uses Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) to record incidents such as machine alerts, alarms, volume variances, and donor adverse events.
6. Links equipment and soft goods used in the pheresis process to the donor via PDA.
7. Alerts Group Leader or Supervisor of donor flow issues.
8. Ensures accurate recording of donor data in the electronic management system as per SOPs.
9. Understands policies related to hyper immune programs if applicable.
10. Maintains a clean and efficient work environment, ensures sufficient supplies, and follows all HSE and OSHA policies, promoting safety.
11. Maintains confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
12. May be cross-trained in other areas as needed.
13. Bilingual skills may be required based on organizational needs.
14. Performs additional job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of three months' experience, preferably in a medical or health environment, or equivalent education and experience.
• Ability to perform basic math calculations.

Working Conditions

• Ability to understand, remember, and apply instructions.
• Ability to see, speak with customers, and observe equipment operation.
• Occasional standing, walking, reaching, bending, kneeling, manual dexterity.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally.
• Fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
• Exposure to hazardous chemicals, extreme temperatures, and blood-borne pathogens; use of PPE required.
• Overtime and extended hours may be necessary.
