Job Title: Phlebotomy Technician
Job Description Summary
Responsible for preparing the donor, donor area, and equipment for the pheresis process.
Main Responsibilities
- Prepares the autopheresis machine for the pheresis process.
- Monitors the donor and the pheresis process, responds to specific alarms or signals during the process.
- Disconnects the donor when the process is complete.
- Maintains alertness to any reactions the donor may have during or after the process and notifies appropriate staff.
- Uses Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) to record incidents such as machine alerts, alarms, volume variances, and donor adverse events.
- Links equipment and soft goods used in the pheresis process to the donor via PDA.
- Alerts Group Leader or Supervisor of donor flow issues.
- Ensures accurate recording of donor data in the electronic management system as per SOPs.
- Understands policies related to hyper immune programs if applicable.
- Maintains a clean and efficient work environment, ensures sufficient supplies, and follows all HSE and OSHA policies, promoting safety.
- Maintains confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
- May be cross-trained in other areas as needed.
- Bilingual skills may be required based on organizational needs.
- Performs additional job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of three months' experience, preferably in a medical or health environment, or equivalent education and experience.
- Ability to perform basic math calculations.
Working Conditions
- Ability to understand, remember, and apply instructions.
- Ability to see, speak with customers, and observe equipment operation.
- Occasional standing, walking, reaching, bending, kneeling, manual dexterity.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
- Exposure to hazardous chemicals, extreme temperatures, and blood-borne pathogens; use of PPE required.
- Overtime and extended hours may be necessary.
