Are you a detail-oriented problem-solver with a passion for customer service?

The Maine Department of Labor, Unemployment Tax Division, is looking for a Customer Representative to support employers and payroll companies with reporting, eligibility, and compliance requirements. This role requires strong attention to detail as you'll be handling payments, data entry, and document management. You'll use your customer service skills to provide exceptional communication via phone and online support. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Assist employers and payroll companies with reporting, eligibility, and compliance requirements via phone and online portal.
  • Manage account maintenance, data entry, processing mail, posting payments, and entering quarterly reports and corrections.
  • File and update documents and financial transactions, including bankruptcies, foreclosures, securities, and liens.

Skills or knowledge required:

  • Attention to Detail - verifying, coding, computing, and reconciling data.
  • Organization Skills - tracking documents for follow-up.
  • Physical ability to lift and handle mail may be required.
  • Problem Solving - effectively resolving issues.
  • Good Judgement - assessing situations and making decisions.
  • Communication - assisting employers over the phone and in writing.
  • Patience - helping frustrated customers and providers.

Minimum qualifications:

Experience in office/support work demonstrating knowledge of customer service principles and the ability to make independent decisions per standard procedures.

Positions assume qualifications of: Customer Representative Assistant I, II and Customer Representative Associate I.

Preference given to:

Applicants with Customer Service Experience.
