Job Summary

Are you a detail-oriented problem-solver with a passion for customer service?

The Maine Department of Labor, Unemployment Tax Division, is seeking a Customer Representative to assist employers and payroll companies with reporting, eligibility, and compliance requirements. This role demands strong attention to detail as you will manage payments, data entry, and document processing. Use your customer service skills to communicate effectively via phone and online support. Enjoy the hybrid remote/in-office work schedule while contributing to your community.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Assist employers and payroll companies with reporting, eligibility, and compliance in a phone queue and online portal.
  • Maintain accounts, enter data, process mail, post payments, and update quarterly reports and corrections.
  • File and update standard documents and financial transactions, including bankruptcies, foreclosures, securities, and liens.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Attention to Detail: Verify, code, compute, and reconcile data on documents.
  • Organization Skills: Track documents for follow-up.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting mail.
  • Problem Solving: Resolve issues effectively.
  • Good Judgement: Assess situations and make recommendations.
  • Communication: Assist employers via phone and written communication.
  • Patience: Support frustrated customers and providers.
Minimum Qualifications

Experience or education in office support demonstrating:

  • Knowledge of customer service principles and assisting the public with applications, fees, examinations, or social services with compliance components.
  • Ability to make independent decisions following standard procedures.

All positions require qualifications of Customer Representative Assistant I, II, and Associate I.

Preferred Qualifications

Customer Service Experience is preferred.
