Job summary

Hy-Vee in Council Bluffs, IA is seeking a Checker/Stocker to keep the store running on two fronts—front-end service and shelf readiness. You’ll greet customers, scan items, bag groceries, and help stock and rotate merchandise.

The role involves handling cash transactions, following safety guidelines, and assisting in promotions while staying active and part of a friendly team. Training is provided; no prior experience is required. Daytime shifts offered.

Qualifications

• No education or experience is required; Hy-Vee will provide training.
• Strong customer service orientation and the ability to handle cash transactions and assist shoppers.

Responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service by greeting customers and learning their names.
• Operate the cash register and process payments including cash, checks, cards, coupons, and other forms.
• Count back change, issue receipts, and process refunds or credits as needed.
• Follow local, state, and federal guidelines on WIC, food stamps, tobacco, liquor, and lottery sales.
• Bag groceries, assist customers, and support drive-up and carry-out services.
• Unload shipments and rotate stock to ensure freshness and presentation.
• Stock and face merchandise, clean shelves, and monitor shelf tags.
• Stay informed on item numbers, department codes, and weekly ad sale items.
• Keep the register area clean and report cash levels.
• Verify cash balances at shift start and end.
• Communicate clearly with customers by phone or intercom and assist with questions.
• Maintain store safety and report hazards.
• Assist in displays for promotions and support other store areas as needed.
• Maintain personal hygiene and adhere to Hy-Vee policies.
• Arrive on time as scheduled.
