Job description

The CX Associate - Back of House owns the flow of inventory from the moment it arrives at the store to the moment it reaches the sales floor or the customer. This role is responsible for receiving and putaway of warehouse shipments, stockroom organization and accuracy, inventory counts, and supporting replenishment, returns, transfers, and fulfillment.

Description

At Chêne Gear, we build gear for hunters who demand more—more from their equipment, more from their experience, and more from the brands they trust. We believe in products made right, built to last, and backed by service that honors the people who use them. Every decision we make ties back to that standard.

As we continue expanding our retail footprint, we are creating immersive store experiences that reflect the quality, craftsmanship, and authenticity of the Chêne brand. Our retail teams play a critical role in bringing our products and story to life for every customer who walks through our doors.

Why this Role Exists:

Inventory accuracy is the backbone of a great in-store experience. This role exists to make sure every shipment that arrives at the store is received, verified, and put away correctly—and that inventory stays accurate and available, so customers always find what they came into the store for.

Key Responsibilities:
Receiving
  • Verify inbound shipments against packing slips and purchase orders
  • Report shortages, overages, and damaged goods to the warehouse or vendor
  • Complete and sign off on receiving paperwork
Putaway & Stockroom Organization
  • Put away received inventory to correct bin and shelf locations
  • Maintain an organized, clearly labeled stockroom layout
  • Rotate stock (FIFO) where applicable
Inventory Counts
  • Conduct full physical inventory counts as scheduled
  • Reconcile count results against system records
  • Investigate and document inventory variances
  • Process or elevate inventory adjustments
  • Pull stock from the backroom to the sales floor
  • Monitor low-stock levels and prioritize restocks
  • Support planogram and reset execution with product pulls
  • Process customer returns going back to stock or to the vendor
  • Handle return-to-vendor paperwork and shipments
  • Log and route defective or damaged merchandise
  • Prepare and ship store-to-store inventory transfers
  • Pick and pack online orders (ship-from-store), where applicable
  • Secure high-value and high-theft inventory
  • Flag shrink patterns or suspicious discrepancies
Safety & Equipment
  • Maintain safe, compliant stockroom conditions
  • Operate and maintain pallet jacks and scanners
Documentation
  • Maintain receiving logs, discrepancy reports, and count records
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior retail, stockroom, or warehouse experience preferred
  • Comfortable using handheld scanners, POS, and inventory management systems
  • Strong attention to detail and basic math/reconciliation skills
  • Ability to work independently and follow safety procedures
  • Forklift or pallet jack certification a plus, where applicable
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40–50 lbs regularly
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and reach for extended periods
  • Ability to climb ladders and use stockroom equipment safely
  • Availability may include early mornings for shipment receiving, plus weekends and holidays as needed based on business demand
What Success looks like in this role:
  • Inventory counts are accurate and completed on schedule, with minimal unexplained variance
  • Shipments are received, verified, and put away the same day with no backlog
  • The sales floor rarely runs out of stock because replenishment is proactive
  • The stockroom stays organized, safe, and audit-ready at all times
