Job summary

Google Public Sector seeks a Customer Engineer III to lead Application Modernization engagements with government and education customers. You’ll help accelerate cloud migrations and modernize legacy apps, collaborating with sales and engineering to deliver practical cloud solutions.

You will travel to customer sites and events as needed, presenting architectural guidance and driving outcomes that demonstrate Google Cloud value. Strong communication and leadership are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10 years of experience reading or debugging code in languages such as Java, C, C++, Python, Go, JavaScript, etc., and familiarity with virtualization/orchestration frameworks.
  • 5 years experience troubleshooting and advocating for customer needs, and triaging technical issues across hardware, software, applications, or processes.
  • Experience engaging with technical stakeholders or executive leaders.

Responsibilities

  • Guide customers through assessments of legacy application environments and provide prioritization roadmaps for modernization.
  • Structure prototyping workshops to validate proposed architectures and document blocking requirements for engineering.
  • Travel to customer sites, conferences, and events as needed, acting as a public advocate for Google Cloud.
  • Resolve blockers and accelerate deployment using coding, debugging, or systems design.

Minimum qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10 years of experience in reading/debugging code written in a general purpose coding language (e.g., Java, C, C++, Python, Shell, Go or JavaScript, etc.) and in virtualization and orchestration frameworks.
  • 5 years of experience troubleshooting and advocating for customer needs, and triaging technical issues (e.g., hardware, software, application, operational, process).
  • Experience engaging with, presenting to, or influencing technical stakeholders or executive leaders.
Preferred qualifications
  • Experience with architectural design patterns, platform engineering (e.g. Infrastructure-as-Code, automation, image management or repository management), virtualization deployments, container deployments, application security, or networking.
  • Experience with developing scalable architectures using API management, microservice frameworks, and PaaS.
  • Experience building cloud native, distributed applications such as microservices and messaging systems.
  • Experience working with serverless technologies, CI/CD pipelines, and building AI driven applications.
  • Experience with the software development life-cycle.
  • Ability to travel up to 30% of time to customer sites, conferences, and other related events as needed, acting as a public advocate for Google Cloud.

You will help prospective and existing customers and partners understand the power of Google Cloud, develop creative cloud solutions and architectures to solve their business challenges, engage in proofs of concepts, and troubleshoot any technical questions and roadblocks. You will use your expertise and presentation skills to engage with customers to understand their business and technical requirements, and persuasively present practical and useful solutions on Google Cloud. US: $152000 - $221000 (USD) + 42.86% bonus target + equity + benefits
