Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an entry-level engineering technician to perform technical tasks and prepare system-improvement orders while engaging with residential, commercial, and industrial customers. You will help design facilities to meet client needs and assess associated costs.

As you learn AEP Distribution Standards, NESC Codes, and OSHA rules, you will participate in storm restoration assessments when needed, building broad knowledge of equipment, materials, and business processes through

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or Associate degree plus 2 years related utility industry experience
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Gains knowledge of applicable standards, codes, and regulations related to assigned work
  • Develops understanding of equipment, materials, systems, and business processes
  • Assists employees with defined portions of routine technical problems when beneficial to AEP
  • Demonstrates basic computer literacy, including foundational knowledge and technical skills

Responsibilities

Job description

  • Responsible for performing entry level technical work and related activities
  • Preparing required orders to implement recommended system improvements such as capacity improvements and pole replacements

  • Learning and understanding AEP Distribution Standards, NESC Codes, OSHA Rules, and other practices
  • Participating in storm restoration work, specifically assessment of storm damage when applicable
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent plus 2 years of related utility industry work experience; or Associate’s degree in electrical/Electronic/Civil/Mechanical Engineering Technology or related fields
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Possesses technical knowledge gained through an Associate Degree in Electrical, Electronic, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering Technology
  • Develops an understanding of applicable standards, codes, and regulations related to assigned work
  • Gains knowledge of relevant equipment, materials, systems, and business processes
  • Assists employees with defined portions of routine technical problems when beneficial to AEP
  • Demonstrates basic computer literacy, including foundational knowledge and technical skills
