Job summary

Steiner Electric is seeking a Custom Products Division Manager to lead kitting, light assembly, and production scheduling, ensuring on-time, accurate customer solutions. This role supports Steiner’s service commitment and operational excellence while building customized customer solutions in a collaborative environment.

You will manage staff, develop quotes, perform time studies, control costs, and maintain documentation.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or equivalent training in a production environment.
  • Knowledge of electricity, motors, transformers, and electrical circuitry.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and assembly drawings.
  • Ability to provide accurate detailed cost quotes including material and labor.
  • Competent organizational and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to operate hand tools and electrical testing equipment.
  • Proficiency in MS Word and Excel; ability to learn job-related software.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage Custom Products staff, ensuring efficient operations and on-time, accurate customer deliverables.
  • Provide accurate Custom Product quotes by estimating material, setup, labor and completion time.
  • Conduct time studies for CPG kits and assist production as needed.
  • Maintain CPG kit costs and notify pricing of price changes.
  • Instruct inside sales on new CPG kit order entry.
  • Process all incoming CPG orders by creating BOMs and scheduling work.
  • Transfer and expedite kit material across branches and organize for in-process orders.
  • Verify BOM data, add labor time, ensure costs meet quotes.
  • Complete sales orders and transfer paperwork; ship when necessary.
  • Maintain CPG templates, prints, BOMs and training logs.
  • Keep records of completed orders by month.
  • Generate divisional sales history, GP, production, and failure-rate reports.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

The Custom Products Division Manager is responsible for leading and managing Steiner Electric’s Custom Products Group operations, including kitting, light assembly, work order processing, production scheduling, quality control, and daily personnel management. This position ensures customer requirements are completed accurately, efficiently, safely, and on time while supporting Steiner’s commitment to service, operational excellence, and customized customer solutions.

Essential Functions:
  • Manage and train Custom Products staff on all completed products, processes, and divisional requirements. Ensure the division operates as efficiently as possible and all completed products are built to customer specifications as well as completed on time.
  • Provide customers, account managers and inside sales with an accurate Custom Product quote by estimating all material, set up time, labor time and completion time.
  • Conduct thorough-time studies for all CPG kits and help with production when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate CPG kit costs and notify pricing department, inside and outside sales of price increases.
  • Instruct inside sales on new CPG kit order entry.
  • Process all incoming CPG orders by creating work order BOM’s and scheduling all work.
  • Transfer and expedite all kit material from other branches, when necessary, receive incoming kit material and organize for all in process work orders.
  • Process all completed work orders by verifying all BOM information is accurate, add CPG labor time and ensure the completed cost is equal to or under quoted/system cost.
  • Complete all sales orders and transfer paperwork, ship when necessary.
  • Maintain CPG work order template network with current material and negotiated costs. Keep CPG kit folders current with prints, instructions, supplemental work order instructions, BOM’s and training logs.
  • Keep detailed records of all completed work orders categorized by month.
  • Generate Divisional Sales History, GP, Production, and Failure Rates also provide statistical reports to senior management when requested.
WHAT WE'LL NEED FROM YOU:
  • Associate degree or equivalent training and experience in a production environment.
  • knowledge of electricity, motors, transformers, and electrical circuitry as well as managing staff to meet production requirements.
  • Proficiency in reading electrical schematics, assembly drawings or written instructions for quotes and staff training.
  • The ability to provide accurate detailed cost quotes including material, labor time and turnaround time to complete a custom product as well as conduct time studies to ensure all finished products are completed on or under budget.
  • Competent organizational, problem-solving skills and acute attention to detail.
  • The ability to operate hand tools such as drills, saws, soldering equipment, wire strippers, crimpers, electrical test equipment and welding equipment.
  • Computer literacy including MS Word, Excel, and Job Rec (windows-based software). Must also have the ability to learn all job-related functions in the current company operating system.
