Job summary

Gunnison County Sheriff’s Office in Gunnison, CO seeks a Custody Support Assistant to join a civilian, non-sworn team inside the Detention Center. You’ll monitor security systems, assist with inmate processing, and support detention staff.

The role features 12-hour rotating shifts, typically 14 workdays per month, with day and night options. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position offering meaningful public safety work.

Qualifications

• Experience in administrative or clerical support is preferred.
• Experience in records management or data entry.
• Customer service experience including retail, food service, public service.
• Dispatch, security, or public-safety support.
• Healthcare or other environments involving confidential information.
• Corrections or criminal-justice support.
• Other positions requiring organization, multitasking, communication, and attention to detail.
• Previous detention or law-enforcement experience is not required.

Responsibilities

• Operate the Detention Center control tower.
• Monitor security cameras, intercoms, telephones, computer systems, and facility activity.
• Control secure doors and access points.
• Communicate safety, security, and operational information to detention staff.
• Support inmate booking and release paperwork and records processing.
• Enter, reviewing, and maintaining records, logs, forms, files, and databases.
• Coordinate visitation, court appearances, transports, attorney visits, and other activities.
• Answer phones and assist members of the public.
• Support detention staff with reports, correspondence, records, supplies, and other operational needs.
• Follow established procedures during facility emergencies.
