Job summary

Mounds View Public Schools is seeking a Custodian B-Lead to manage cleaning operations for our facilities. The shift runs Monday through Friday, 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM, with full-time status and a start date of September 25, 2026.

The role requires a Second Class Boiler license and the ability to supervise staff, perform routine maintenance, and coordinate with district staff to keep classrooms, offices and common areas safe, clean and ready for daily use.

Qualifications

• Must possess at least a Second Class Boiler license.
• Ability to interact courteously with staff, students and the public.
• Knowledge of keeping school facilities clean, safe and orderly.
• Knowledge of modern cleaning methods and equipment usage.
• Ability to learn custodial procedures, schedules and safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Perform general cleaning: vacuum, scrub, wax, buff and sweep floors.
• Conduct minor maintenance to keep facilities operable.
• Secure building and test fire alarms as required.
• Set up equipment for events and meetings.
• Inspect boilers and pumps and report issues to maintenance supervisor.
• Open/close the building as needed.
• Inspect for safety in grounds, building and equipment.
• Coordinate tasks for regular custodial staff.
• Distribute supplies for kitchen, offices, and departments.
• Perform minor repairs to chairs, desks, and equipment.
• Assist with grounds maintenance such as mowing and snow removal.
• Supervise student workers on cleaning tasks.
• Additional duties as assigned.

Pay: $25.00/hour starting pay per the Custodial Labor Agreement

Required Qualifications

• Must possess at least a Second Class Boiler license
• Ability to get along with district employees, and be courteous and helpful with students and general public.
• Knowledge of requirements of maintaining school buildings in a safe, clean and orderly condition.
• Knowledge of modern cleaning methods including basic methods of cleaning and preserving floors, black boards, carpets, furniture, walls and fixtures.
• Knowledge of cleaning equipment, tools, materials and supplies used in custodial work.
• Ability to learn custodial procedures, methods and schedules.
• Ability to maintain classrooms, offices and other school facilities in a clean, safe and secure condition.
• Ability to use common cleaning equipment and supplies safely and efficiently.
• Ability to move and arrange furniture and equipment for meetings and special events.
• Ability to observe and report safety hazards and need for maintenance and repair.
• Ability to perform minor maintenance and repair on furniture, equipment and facilities.
• Ability to confer with site administrators and supervisor regarding custodial needs, schedules and concerns.

Responsibilities

• Do general cleaning functions such as vacuum, scrub, wax, buff and sweep floors which may include mixing various cleaning and maintenance chemicals.
• Perform minor maintenance to keep schools and classroom operational such as repair plumbing, heating, ventilation and electrical equipment not requiring an outside contractor.
• Secures building and tests and resets fire alarms.
• Sets up equipment for sporting events, concerts and other meetings or special events.
• Checks boilers, gauges and pumps to ensure proper orientation, adds oil to pumps or turns off pumps as necessary. Refers operational problems to Supervisor of Maintenance.
• Opens or closes building as necessary.
• Inspects building, grounds and equipment for safety.
• Coordinates and assigns tasks to regular custodial staff.
• Distributes supplies for kitchen, office, teachers and departments.
• Perform minor repairs to chairs, desks, chair glides and other school equipment.
• Conducts minor ground maintenance including mowing, landscaping, snow removal, painting, raking or similar tasks.
• Supervises student workers in performance of general cleaning tasks.
• Sets up equipment for sporting events, concerts and other meetings or special events.
• Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

Standing and walking 90% of the time. 50% of the time, involves: twisting, bending, stooping, squatting and climbing stairs. 25% of the time involves: crouching, pulling, pushing, climbing ladders, twisting while lifting, sweeping, extended reaches of 20 pounds overhead and lifting 50-100 pounds with mechanical assistance.
