Job summary

Lamar Consolidated ISD is seeking a Custodian, Lead IV (Manager) to direct and coordinate custodial operations across district schools and facilities. You will oversee custodians, train staff and ensure a high standard of safety, cleanliness and efficiency.

Responsibilities include managing daily cleaning schedules, supervising facilities setup for events, performing minor repairs, and enforcing safety procedures.

Qualifications

  • Five years of experience in custodial services preferred.
  • Two years of custodial supervisory experience preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and monitor the work of custodians at assigned campus.
  • Assist in training new custodians.
  • Assist in the annual evaluation of custodians.
  • Direct and assist in setting up facilities for meetings and special events.
  • Secure substitutes for absent custodians as needed.
  • Implement a cleaning schedule that includes the cleaning of floors, chalkboards, wastebaskets, windows, furniture, equipment and restrooms.
  • Keep school building and grounds neat and clean.
  • Comply with local laws and procedures for storage and disposal of trash.
  • Maintain an inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment and request additional supplies as needed.
  • Assist with lunchroom setup, including arranging tables and chairs.
  • Perform preventative maintenance to ensure comfort, health and safety of students, staff and visitors.
  • Make minor building repairs as needed and report major repair needs to the supervisor.
  • Move furniture or equipment within building as directed by the principal, campus administrator, supervisor or designee.
  • Assume responsibility for closing the building each school/work day.
  • Follow established procedures for locking, checking and safeguarding facilities.
  • Check daily to ensure all exit doors are open and locks are working properly during hours of building occupancy.
  • Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency; report faulty equipment and hazards.
  • Operate tools and equipment according to safety procedures.
  • Follow safety procedures in lifting, climbing and other duties.
  • Correct unsafe conditions and report uncorrectable ones.
  • Attendance at work is an essential function.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or designee.
  • Monitor and direct the work of custodians.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Primary Purpose:

Direct, coordinate and monitor custodial operations and follow routine cleaning and maintenance procedures to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness and efficiency of operations in and around District schools and facilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Custodial Management
  • Direct and monitor the work of custodians at assigned campus.
  • Assist in training new custodians.
  • Assist in the annual evaluation of custodians.
  • Direct and assist in setting up facilities for meetings and special events.
  • Secure substitutes for absent custodians as needed.
Cleaning
  • Implement a cleaning schedule that includes the cleaning of floors, chalkboards, wastebaskets, windows, furniture, equipment and restrooms.
  • Keep school building and grounds, including sidewalks, driveways, parking lots and play areas, neat and clean.
  • Comply with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash.
  • Maintain an inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment and request additional supplies as needed.
Maintenance and Repair
  • Assist with lunchroom setup, including arranging tables and chairs.
  • Perform preventative maintenance to ensure the comfort, health and safety of students, staff and visitors.
  • Make minor building repairs as needed and report major repair needs to the supervisor.
  • Move furniture or equipment within building as directed by the principal, campus administrator, supervisor or designee.
Safety
  • Assume responsibility for closing the building each school/work day.

  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques in lifting, climbing and performing other job duties.
  • Correct any unsafe conditions in the work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to the supervisor immediately.
  • Attendance at work is an essential function.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or designee.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Monitor and direct the work of custodians
EXPERIENCE:
  • Five years of experience in custodial services preferred
  • Two years of custodial supervisory experience preferred
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred
  • Eligible for coverage under the District’s vehicle insurance program
Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Knowledge of routine custodial practices and methods
  • Knowledge of minor repair techniques and building and ground maintenance
  • Ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance and safety procedures
  • Ability to properly handle chemicals, equipment and materials used in the cleaning process
  • Ability to operate cleaning equipment and lift heavy equipment
  • Ability to manage personnel
  • Effective planning and organizational skills
OTHER INFORMATION:

Equipment Used: Broom, mop, buffer, stripper, wet and dry vacuum cleaner, shampooer, duster, squeegee, toilet brush, ladder, dolly, lawn mower, edger, weed eater, blower, scaffold, hammer, electric drill and hand tools. Working Conditions: Mental/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Frequent walking, standing, climbing and heavy lifting and carrying. Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces and ladders. Exposure to hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials.
