Custodian Sub
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Manual skills to perform cleaning tasks and minor repairs of building and equipment
- Mechanical skills to operate cleaning and grounds keeping equipment
- Reliable transportation and a valid Driver's License
- Must pass local and federal background check
- Must pass a pre-employment physical exam which includes drug testing
Performance Responsibilities:
- Perform all custodial activities deemed appropriate by Head Custodian or Administration, including maintaining a clean, safe, and comfortable school building environment and attractive grounds.
- Keep buildings and grounds neat and clean at all times.
- Clean and maintain all assigned workspaces and equipment.
- Clean and disinfect restrooms and drinking fountains; clean cafeteria, gymnasium, classrooms, windows, and hallways; wax, buff, and strip floors; open/close building; mop, sweep, and vacuum all spaces daily; conduct building walk‑through with health and fire inspectors; regulate heat and air conditioning systems; move furniture or equipment; set up building areas for special events; dispose of trash, rubbish, and waste following local laws, regulations, and procedures.
- Maintain clean and attractive school grounds: mow grass, rake leaves, trim trees and shrubs, cut weeds, mulch existing and new plantings, clean drains, curbs, walkways, check playground equipment safety, remove snow and ice from sidewalks and building entrances.
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs of buildings, equipment, and grounds.
- Assist in building and grounds security by unlocking/locking doors and gates after use and at the end of the workday.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Communicate general information with school staff, students, and visitors.
Equipment
Equipment used includes a vacuum cleaner, maintenance tools, and equipment such as a floor polisher, sander, carpet cleaner, lawnmower, etc.
Physical Requirements
Work involves frequent walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling—operation of gasoline, diesel, or electric powered machinery requiring manual dexterity and hand‑eye coordination. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee frequently must squat, stoop or kneel, reach about the head and reach forward. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climb onto ladders. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job.
The employee must frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds independently, such as cleaning supplies, pails, and unloading trucks. Occasionally the employee will lift or move up to 100 pounds, such as salt and bulk furniture. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables, bleachers, and scrubbing machines. Safety rules, training, and protective equipment are required.
Working Conditions
- Pay Rate - $19.67 per hour to start
