School Custodian Substitute
Openings at all three schools, $16.25 per hour, Part-time, non-benefit position.
Qualifications
- Certificate of good health signed by a licensed physician
- Ability to read basic operating instructions
- Demonstrated aptitude for successful completion of the assigned task
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable

Job Goal
To provide a clean, safe, and comfortable learning environment for all students and staff.
Performance Responsibilities
A. General
- Clean all classrooms, corridors, storage rooms, work rooms, offices, teacher rooms, kitchen, cafeteria, toilet rooms daily; sweeping, dry mopping, vacuuming, and trash removal.
- Maintain tiled floors as required by stripping, sealing, finishing, washing, buffing and recoating as needed.
- Carpeted floors will be vacuumed daily, spot cleaned as required, and shampooed at least once a year.
- Toilet room floors are to be washed and sanitized daily; toilet room fixtures cleaned and sanitized daily; walls maintained clean and graffiti-free as required.
- Dusting, washing of windows, mirrors, and woodwork; cleaning of classroom sinks, minor maintenance and repairs as necessary and time allows.
- Set up and take down chairs, tables, A.V. equipment, and any required materials for various functions as required.
- Drinking fountains cleaned and sanitized daily.
- Operate cleaning equipment.
- Maintain litter‑free grounds.
B. Safety and Security
- Assure that walkways and stairwells are clear of all debris; cleanup spills, remove snow and sand or salt ice as required.
- Maintain entrance way lights as required.
- During heating season, make sure boilers are operating.
- Lock classrooms after hours and engage security system upon leaving the building.
- Report any maintenance and/or security problems to the head custodian immediately.
C. Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift objects 5–60 lbs.; stand/walk for periods of 2–7.5 hours; repetitive motion of the hands; ability to push, pull, reach objects overhead; operate cleaning equipment.
D. Personal
- Promptness is necessary: be on time for work.
- Appropriate dress and personal hygiene is required.
- Custodians are expected to conduct themselves in a polite friendly manner.
- Cooperation and teamwork is required; respect for and the ability to assist each other is expected.
E. Other
- Other duties and requirements as directed by the Head Custodian or Facilities Director.
