Job Description

Classification Title: Custodians

Pay Grade: $14.00 per hour

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Schedule: 230 Days, 8 Hours per day

The selected candidate will begin in a temporary role through Kelly Staffing for an initial 45‑day period. Upon successful completion, may be considered for a full‑time position with benefits such as paid leave and state insurance/retirement. Starting hourly rate as an SDPC employee will be $15.00.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform basic custodial, maintenance and grounds‑keeping tasks to maintain a clean and safe environment for students and staff.
• Clean restrooms, hallways, classrooms, offices, cafeteria and other school building areas.
• Remove trash, sanitize surfaces, sweep, vacuum, mop, shampoo, and buff floors and carpets; clean windows and walls.
• Move furniture, dust, restock soap and paper towel dispensers, and handle trash and recycling from grounds.
• Mow grass, trim weeds and shrubbery.
• Set up rooms for special events.
• Respond to emergency calls in buildings when necessary.
• Operate floor buffer, carpet cleaner, vacuum, sweeper, wet‑vac, hand and power tools, lawnmower, weed eater, hedge trimmer, leaf blower, etc., exercising care and safety.
• Interact and communicate with supervisor, co‑workers, school staff, and students.
• Perform light maintenance duties such as changing light fixtures, moving furniture, and minor equipment repairs.
• Unlock or secure building and rooms as required.
• Perform related duties as required.

Minimum Education and Training

High School Diploma, GED, or Bronze level WorkKeys/WIN Assessment.

Minimum Qualifications and Standards Required

Physical requirements: ability to operate machinery, lift up to 100 pounds, stand/stoop/kneel/crouch, perform manual tasks for periods of time. Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and equipment.
