Job summary

Person County, NC is seeking a Custodian with General Services to help keep public buildings clean and presentable. You will perform custodial and facility care duties across multiple county facilities under supervision and in line with established policies.

Starting salary will reflect education and experience. A valid driver's license is required. This is a non-exempt position; part-time employees cannot exceed 1,000 hours per year. A job function test may be required.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and write.
• Some experience in building cleaning work.
• Must pass job function test.
• Valid Driver’s License with acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Cleans and services offices, rooms, halls and stairways.
• Sweeps, mops and scrub floors; vacuums carpet.
• Maintain safe working environment.
• Dusts, polishes and washes woodwork, fixtures and furniture.
• Empties and cleans trash receptacles; disposes trash.
• Maintains bathrooms in a sanitary condition; fills tissue, towel and soap dispensers.
• Clean up potentially hazardous materials or contact the appropriate personnel.
• Maintains custodian supply closets and reports needs to supervisor.
• Cleans walls, window, shelves, and mirrors as needed.
• Reports items or issues requiring maintenance repair.

What You'll Do:

As a Custodian with General Services, you'll play an important role in supporting County operations by ensuring public buildings and office spaces are well-maintained and presentable. Responsibilities include performing a variety of custodial and facility care duties across multiple County buildings.

This position works under close to general supervision and follows established policies and procedures. While guidance is provided, employees are expected to use good judgment in determining the most effective way to complete assigned tasks and prioritize daily responsibilities.

The starting salary will be determined with consideration given to both the candidate's educational background and relevant work experience.

Must possess a valid driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record per County policy.

If the position you are applying for requires a degree, education verification will be required as part of the hiring process.

This is a non-exempt position. Part-time employees cannot work more than 1000 hours per calendar year.
