Qualifications

  • Completion of First Aid and CPR/AED training.
  • Completion of Mandated Reporter training.
  • Background checks including state and FBI screening.
  • Initial physical exam, drug testing compliance.
  • Read/write English to understand labels/instructions.
  • Follow oral and written directions; work with minimal supervision.

Job Summary

Under general supervision, the Custodian is responsible for performing custodial duties, minor maintenance, landscaping work, and other miscellaneous duties to ensure that all buildings and facilities assigned to them are maintained in a healthy, safe, and sanitary manner. This position requires the ability to learn the work and perform it dependably with minimal supervision

Essential Job Functions

Clean and care for buildings and facilities to ensure they are maintained in a safe and healthy manner. Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Clean offices, meeting rooms, and recreational facilities
  • Mop a variety of flooring surfaces
  • Vacuum all carpeted areas
  • Dust all furniture and fixtures as required
  • Wash and disinfect all washroom floors, toilets, toilet seats, hand dryers and fixtures, spot clean walls and toilet partitions
  • Clean all mirrors
  • Replenish toilet tissue and soap as needed
  • Empty all waste baskets and garbage cans throughout the facility
  • Place garbage in outside storage bins
  • Clean entrance and exit including glass, doors, and hardware
  • Keep outside area near exit and entrance clear of snow, cans, paper, etc.
  • Clean, wash, and disinfect drinking fountains
  • Wash all finger marks from walls, doors, hardware, and glass
  • Perform and/or report minor maintenance repairs
  • Clean kitchen sinks and counters
  • Report damages and acts of vandalism
  • Water flowers and plants in garden
  • Perform various landscaping activities, including but not limited to, mowing, trimming, and weeding
  • Perform various snow removal activities, including but not limited to, shoveling, snow blowing, and de-icing
  • Maintain storage areas and cleaning equipment, materials and supplies in a safe and orderly manner to ensure the safety of staff and the public
  • Ensure cleaning materials and supplies are stored in a safe and orderly manner
  • Restock materials and supplies
Essential Personnel Designation

This position belongs to a class of employees referred to as Essential Personnel. Essential personnel are those needed on site to meet the needs of our animals, plants, or general maintenance operations when the facility is closed due to inclement weather conditions. Essential personnel must report to work during their regularly scheduled hours, unless directed otherwise by their supervisor.

Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • Completion of First Aid and CPR/AED training
  • Completion of Mandated Reporter training
  • Current State child abuse history clearance , current State Police record check & current Federal criminal history background check (FBI Fingerprinting)
  • Initial physical exam
  • Compliance with drug testing & satisfactory drug testing results
  • Customer service: safety issues related to the physical handling of furniture or larger items including but not limited to small power tools. Requires knowledge and skill in the use of hand and power tools required to perform minor repairs and facility modifications; proper use, methods, and application of tools utilized in the maintenance trade. Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions related to facility repairs and handling of various lawn care and snow removal equipment.
  • Read and write English at a level required for successful job performance – particularly the ability to read and understand labels and instructions on the use and application of cleaning chemicals and products
