Job summary

Humane Society of Sheboygan County, Inc. is seeking a motivated Custodian to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for animals, staff, and visitors.

You will perform daily cleaning, operate floor scrubbers and vacuums, and ensure sanitation protocols are followed to promote a sanitary space across shelter facilities.

Qualifications

• Prior custodial or janitorial experience preferred; familiarity with commercial cleaning practices is a plus.
• Knowledge of cleaning procedures, sanitation standards, and chemical handling safety procedures.
• Ability to perform manual handling tasks including heavy lifting with proper technique.
• Strong attention to safety protocol adherence and facility maintenance standards.
• Excellent customer service skills when interacting with staff or visitors in shared spaces.
• Ability to work independently with a proactive approach to cleanliness and safety.
• Ability to clearly communicate.
• Be a creative and critical thinker.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, dusting, and disinfecting specific areas within the shelter.
• Operate cleaning equipment such as floor scrubbers and vacuums to maintain floors and surfaces in pristine condition.
• Handle chemical agents safely by following proper chemical handling safety procedures and safety protocol adherence.
• Assist with heavy lifting tasks using safe lifting practices to move supplies or equipment as needed.
• Maintain sanitation standards in public areas, restrooms, and common spaces.
• Ensure compliance with safety guidelines during all custodial activities to promote a safe environment for staff, visitors, and animals.
• Arrange rooms for meetings and/or events.
