Responsibilities

• Keep buildings, walkways, parking lot and play areas neat and clean at all times.
• Regulate HVAC to maintain appropriate temperatures and monitor fuel, water and electricity usage.
• Shovel, plow and salt sidewalks, driveways, parking areas and steps as needed.
• Disinfect bathroom floors and fixtures daily and clean drinking fountains.
• Perform yard-keeping tasks like grass cutting and tree trimming to keep grounds safe and attractive.
• Open and close the building daily and ensure doors/windows are secured; turn off unused lights.
• Maintain inventory of supplies, equipment and fuel.
• Inspect electrical installations for safety.
• Coordinate with volunteers to beautify Academy grounds.
• Report any damage to school property.
• Carry out other duties assigned by the principal and Choice Schools.

About the Academy

Founders Grove Classical Academy (FGCA) is a tuition-free kindergarten through 5th grade public charter school in Midland, MI that is focused on classical education and open to ages 5 years old and up. FGCA is a Hillsdale College Curriculum School.

About the role

Hours will range from 20-25 hours/week.

Create a welcoming and conducive environment for the school community by maintaining a clean, safe, and hygienic environment for all occupants of the school. By diligently carrying out their duties, custodians contribute to the overall well-being and smooth functioning of the educational institution.

What you'll do

• Keeps buildings and premises, including walkways, parking lot and play areas neat and clean at all times.
• Regulates heat, ventilation and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate for the season and ensures economical usage of fuel, water and electricity.
• Shovels, plows and salts sidewalks, driveways, parking areas and steps, as appropriate.
• Scrubs, hoses down, and disinfects bathroom floors and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains on a daily basis.
• Performs such yard-keeping chores as grass cutting and tree trimming, as necessary, to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition
• Assumes responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day and for determining that all doors and windows are secured and that all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off.
• Keeps an inventory of supplies, equipment and fuel on hand.
• Conducts periodic inspections and tests of all electrical installations in the school to ensure their safe condition.
• Coordinates and works with volunteers in their efforts to beautify Academy grounds.
• Reports any damage to school property.
• Carries out other duties assigned by the principal and/or Choice Schools

Qualifications

While we will consider a broad range of backgrounds, the ideal candidate would have the following qualifications/experience:

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Solid record of punctuality.
