Job summary

Overtown Youth Center Inc in Miami, FL is seeking a Part-time Custodian to maintain clean, safe, and welcoming spaces across all facilities. You'll perform routine cleaning, sanitation, and upkeep, report maintenance needs, and ensure proper handling of cleaning chemicals in a child-friendly environment.

Ideal candidates have a High School Diploma, at least 1 year of custodial or janitorial experience, knowledge of sanitation procedures, and the ability to work flexible hours including weekends.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a High School Diploma.
• Minimum of 1 year of custodial, janitorial, or commercial cleaning experience preferred.
• Knowledge of proper cleaning, sanitation, and disinfecting procedures.
• Familiarity with the safe use and storage of cleaning chemicals and custodial equipment.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish or another relevant language) preferred.
• Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and the ability to pass drug screening and Level 2 background check.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, as needed.

Responsibilities

• Clean, sanitize, and disinfect restrooms, classrooms, offices, common areas, recreational spaces, and other assigned facilities.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, clean, and wax floors, including wood, linoleum, tile, and carpeted surfaces.
• Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces, including doorknobs, light switches, desks, tables, and handrails.
• Empty trash receptacles, collect and dispose of waste and recycling, and replenish restroom supplies as needed.
• Respond promptly to spills, accidents, and other cleaning emergencies to maintain a clean and safe environment.
• Conduct routine inspections of assigned areas to identify cleaning needs, safety hazards, and maintenance concerns.
• Report damaged equipment, plumbing issues, electrical concerns, and other facility maintenance needs to the appropriate supervisor.
• Follow established health, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures, including the use of appropriate warning signs when addressing potential hazards.
• Properly operate, clean, and maintain custodial equipment, including commercial vacuums, floor buffers, and carpet cleaners.
• Monitor cleaning supplies, maintain organized storage areas, and notify management when replenishment is needed.
• Assist with setting up and breaking down rooms for organizational programs, meetings, and special events.
• Coordinate cleaning activities to minimize disruptions to educational programs and daily operations.

Overtown Youth Center is seeking a dedicated and experienced Custodian to join our dynamic team. This role is responsible for maintaining a clean, sage, sanitary, and welcoming environment throughout the Overtown Youth Center (OYC) facilities. This position performs routine cleaning, sanitation, and general facility upkeep to support the health, safety, and well‑being of students, families, staff, and visitors. The Custodian is expected to follow established cleaning procedures, maintain custodial equipment and supplies, and promptly report facility maintenance and safety concerns.
