Job summary

City of Sunny Isles Beach is seeking an entry-level custodial staff member to perform custodial work and maintain the cleanliness of the assigned facility. The role involves floor care, restroom sanitation, and event setup duties, with opportunities to perform light maintenance tasks.

Qualified candidates have at least a high school diploma or GED, and a minimum of two years cleaning/maintenance experience. A valid Florida driver’s license is required, and there is a probationary period.

Responsibilities

• Dust and sanitize offices, counters, windows, walls, doors, and other surfaces.
• Collect and dispose of trash and recycling; maintain supply inventories.
• Operate custodial equipment and report issues; perform light maintenance tasks.
• Respond to emergencies and maintain facility cleanliness and safety.
• Set up and break down rooms for events and activities.
• Perform daily facility inspections and address any issues.

Job description

Position Summary:

The purpose of this position is to perform custodial work in the maintenance of the assigned facility.

Position Scope:

This is an entry-level maintenance support position.

This is not intended as a comprehensive list; it is intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may be required to perform all duties listed, and may be required to perform additional, position-specific tasks.

• Cleans and maintains floors throughout facility, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, scrubbing, stripping, buffing, and waxing.
• Clean, sanitize, and restock restrooms with necessary supplies, including soap, paper towels, toilet paper, etc.
• Clean, sanitize, and restock break rooms and kitchens with necessary supplies, including soap, paper towels, etc.
• Dusts, cleans, and sanitizes offices, counters, windows, walls, ceilings, doors, etc.
• Gather and dispose of trash and recycling in all areas of assigned facility.
• Maintain inventory of supplies for areas under responsibility.
• Clean and maintain custodial closets and equipment.
• Responds to emergency requests and cleans and sanitizes the area as needed.
• Locks and unlocks doors in buildings according to daily schedule.
• Perform light building maintenance such as replacing light bulbs and filters.
• Performs set up and break down of rooms for scheduled events and activities.
• Perform daily inspection of facilities, grounds, and property under purview for cleanliness, maintenance, or security issues. Address and report as necessary.
• Performs additional tasks as assigned.

General knowledge of :

• Standard cleaning procedures, chemicals, products and equipment.
• Workplace hazardous materials and proper use of.
• Proper operation and use of custodial/maintenance equipment, including but not limited to, floor polishing machine, handheld blower and pressure washer, hand tools, etc.

Ability to:

• Read and understand labels and instructions in safety data sheets, particularly on the use and application of cleaning chemicals and products;

• Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees and the public.
• Work a varying schedule of hours, to include nights, weekends, and holidays. Operate City vehicles, power tools and equipment including a mobile device to track work orders, and report incidents.
• learn the maintenance operation, policy and procedures of the City and the assigned department or office.

Education & Experience:

• High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) required.
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience of building cleaning or maintenance experience; or any acceptable related combination of training and experience.

Licenses and/or Certifications:

• American Red Cross CPR/First Aid,
• A valid Florida driver's license is required.

Additional Information:

• There is a one year-probationary period.
