ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Perform routine custodial activities at assigned District sites, including sweeping, scrubbing, mopping, waxing, polishing vinyl floors, refinishing wood floors, vacuuming, spot cleaning, and extracting or bonnet cleaning rugs and carpets in classrooms, offices, workshops, and other areas.
- Clean restrooms, showers, locker rooms, shops, cafeteria, offices, and related facilities; sweep, mop, and clean gymnasium floors; spot mop spills; remove gum and debris.
- Clean and disinfect drinking fountains, sinks, toilets, showers, and urinals; refill dispensers with towels, soap, toilet paper, seat covers, and feminine hygiene items; clean mirrors, tiles, partitions, and windows.
- Remove graffiti from surfaces and paint over as appropriate.
- Clean classrooms, including washing windows and walls; clean boards and erasers; empty pencil sharpeners; assemble and move furniture and supplies for classroom activities and events.
- Replace light bulbs and tubes; dust and polish furniture and woodwork; perform minor repairs as needed.
- Maintain security by locking/unlocking doors and gates; turn alarm systems on/off; ensure locker room security; activate or manually operate showers to conserve water; perform minor maintenance on lockers.
- Report safety, sanitary, fire hazards, and maintenance needs; maintain building security; report suspicious individuals.
- Maintain school grounds by picking up trash, sweeping walkways, and cleaning debris; dispose of trash following procedures; wash trash cans.
- Operate cleaning equipment such as vacuums, floor machines, scrubbers, carpet extractors, pressure washers, sweepers, and blowers; transport items around campus; clean tables and floors after meals.
- Set up and clean up facilities for events, including moving furniture, setting up chairs and tables, and clearing debris.
- Respond to emergency cleanups like spills; keep records of maintenance and safety issues.
- Operate a computer for record-keeping, communication, and related tasks.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge and Skills: Basic custodial methods, materials, tools, equipment, disinfectants, sanitizers, proper storage, lifting techniques, and basic hand tools; basic computer skills; communication and interpersonal skills.
Abilities: Perform custodial tasks to maintain clean, secure buildings and grounds; use cleaning materials and equipment according to standards; learn schedules and procedures; follow safety protocols; perform minor repairs; report maintenance needs; follow directions; meet schedules; communicate effectively; operate a computer at a basic level.
Education and Experience:
Any combination of training and experience demonstrating the ability to perform custodial duties effectively.
Licenses and Other Requirements:
Some positions may require a valid California driver’s license and certification for equipment use.
Working Conditions:
Indoor and outdoor environments; exposure to fumes, dust, odors; physical activity including lifting up to 60 pounds, climbing ladders, and reaching overhead; potential exposure to chemicals like ammonia and bleach.
