Job summary

Villanova University is hiring a Custodian for the night shift to maintain cleanliness across dormitories, offices and public spaces. The role requires physical activity including lifting up to 60 lbs, climbing ladders, and operating cleaning equipment.

The position is full-time, 12-month, with an hourly rate of $19.97 plus a $1.75 shift differential, totaling $21.72 per hour, in a union environment. Evening hours are Sunday-Thursday, 10pm-6:30am.

Qualifications

• H.S. Diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to follow written and oral directions.
• Ability to interact with students, faculty, administration, co-workers and supervisors in a positive and helpful manner.
• Must be able to climb ladders, to bend and reach, and to lift up to 60 lbs.
• 1 to 3 years of experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform general cleaning duties within dormitory, office, and other public facilities areas.
• Pick up and dispose of trash and recyclable materials.
• Dust, sweep, dry mop, wet mop and spot mop.
• Operate floor machines, vacuums, carpet extractors and clean glass surfaces as described.
• Winter duties include removing snow and ice around entrances and fire exits.
• Report equipment damage or malfunctions to supervisor.
• Other duties within the department’s scope as assigned.

Under the moderate direction of a supervisor, performs general cleaning duties within dormitory, office, and other public facilities areas.

• Pick up and dispose of trash, to include the proper handling of recyclable materials.
• Dusts, sweeps, and/or dry mops.
• Wet mops and/or spot mops.
• Operates walk-behind or ride-on floor machine, wet vac, & carpet extractor. Cleans glass: All inside areas that can be safely reached.
• All entrance glass, including doors, inside and out.
• Sanitizes washrooms, showers, and toilet facilities (dormitories only).
• Fills all dispensers in restrooms.
• Vacuums and cleans carpets and walk-off mats. Washes walls, woodwork, light fixtures, inside of windows, and other glass.
• Removes snow and ice and cleans and/or picks up debris, such as leaves and paper, around entrances and fire exits (including fire escapes [dormitories only]) from the steps, and from the steps and walkways (generally distanced of ten feet or less) leading to buildings.
• Reports to immediate supervisor or to work control damage and/or malfunction of equipment observed within assigned areas.
• Performs other duties assigned within the normal scope of the department’s responsibilities and the individual’s capabilities.
