Job summary

RSU 40/MSAD 40 SCHOOL DISTRICT is seeking a reliable custodian to maintain the school facilities for safe, clean, and efficient operation. The role reports to the Head Custodian and Facilities Director and requires physical stamina, teamwork, and adherence to district policies.

Qualifying candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent, be able to pass a CHRC check, and have prior janitorial experience.

Responsibilities

• Read, reason and understand policies and procedures and related information.
• Follow verbal, written and/or demonstrated instructions.
• Operate manual and automatic custodial equipment and know materials and methods used in janitorial work.
• Lift and carry products up to 50 pounds and work on your feet for a full eight-hour shift.
• Maintain a clean, sanitary building with daily care of all areas and ensure a safe perimeter around the school.
• Assist in basic repairs and monitor heating, roofing, lighting, plumbing aspects, and safety features.
• Follow health and safety procedures and notify appropriate personnel about absences and coverage.

Job Goal:

To help maintain the physical school plant in condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of it may be made at all times

Pay Range:

$19.36 to $25.00 per hour

Reports to:

Essential Functions

• Ability to read, reason and understand policies and procedures and related information
• Follow verbal, written and/or demonstrated instructions
• Knowledge of materials, methods and equipment used in janitorial work and ability to operate manual and automatic custodial equipment
• Physical ability to perform all necessary job related upper and lower body movement
• Ability to work in a team environment
• Ability to do reaching, lifting, eye-hand coordination, sitting, and stooping
• Ability to lift and carry products (up to 50 pounds)
• Ability to work on your feet for a full eight-hour shift
• Maintain a clean, sanitary building with daily care of all building areas
• Assist in maintaining a clean and safe perimeter around the school building including snow and ice removal
• Perform minor repairs whenever necessary
• Be particularly attentive to heating, roofing, refrigerating, lighting, plumbing aspects of building maintenance
• Be cognizant of and attentive to all building safety features particularly fire control
• Be constantly aware of better custodial practices
• Perform other custodial duties as required by the head custodian or facilities director
• Follow health and safety procedures established by the district
• Arrive and depart punctually, notifying appropriate personnel about absences and coverage
• Demonstrate dependability, integrity, and loyalty when representing RSU 40
• Follow the chain of command for various administrative procedures and student or program concerns
