Job summary

Servingschools is seeking a diligent custodian to maintain a school facility in Maine. You will perform cleaning duties, assist with minor repairs, and help ensure a safe, sanitary environment for students and staff.

The role requires a high school diploma, CHRC clearance, and teamwork with strong organizational skills. You will report to the Head Custodian and Facilities Director and work eight hours per day on site.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• CHRC must be completed.
• Experience in similar janitorial roles is preferred.
• Strong cooperation, initiative and organizational skills are expected.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a clean, sanitary school building in daily operation.
• Assist with snow and ice removal and perimeter cleanliness.
• Perform minor repairs and monitor building safety features.
• Follow health and safety procedures and report concerns to head custodian.

Job Goal

To help maintain the physical school plant in condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of it may be made at all times.

Pay Range: $19.36 to $25.00 per hour

Reports to: Head Custodian and Facilities Director

Essential Functions

• Ability to read, reason and understand policies and procedures and related information
• Follow verbal, written and/or demonstrated instructions
• Knowledge of materials, methods and equipment used in janitorial work and ability to operate manual and automatic custodial equipment
• Physical ability to perform all necessary job related upper and lower body movement
• Ability to work in a team environment
• Ability to do reaching, lifting, eye-hand coordination, sitting, and stooping
• Ability to lift and carry products (up to 50 pounds)
• Ability to work on your feet for a full eight-hour shift
• Maintain a clean, sanitary building with daily care of all building areas
• Assist in maintaining a clean and safe perimeter around the school building including snow and ice removal
• Perform minor repairs whenever necessary
• Be particularly attentive to heating, roofing, refrigerating, lighting, plumbing aspects of building maintenance
• Be cognizant of and attentive to all building safety features particularly fire control
• Be constantly aware of better custodial practices
• Perform other custodial duties as required by the head custodian or facilities director
• Follow health and safety procedures established by the district
• Arrive and depart punctually, notifying appropriate personnel about absences and coverage
• Demonstrate dependability, integrity, and loyalty when representing RSU 40
• Follow the chain of command for various administrative procedures and student or program concerns
