Job summary

Community Bible Church San Antonio is seeking a dedicated Custodian to maintain cleanliness across church facilities and exterior grounds. You will support services and events, coordinate with the Head Custodian for shift‑based tasks, and assist with setup and teardown as needed.

The role requires reliability, basic custodial knowledge, and the ability to work weekends or evenings as needed. The position is full‑time and on site, with a team‑oriented work environment focused on service.

Responsibilities

• Clean all church facilities including halls, classrooms, sanctuary, gym, restrooms, and concession areas.
• Set up rooms for meetings and events and manage tear-downs.
• Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors.
• Service and restock restrooms; manage trash and recycling.
• Notify managers about major repairs or needs for building systems.
• Requisition cleaning supplies and equipment.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Head Custodian or Supervisors.

Job Summary

Work assignments are delegated by the Head Custodian designated for the shift, though occasional requests may come from individuals conducting events or classes within the church facilities.

Essential Functions

• Cleaning, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, sweeping, shampooing & steam cleaning carpets, and trash removal in all facilities of the church (to include halls, classrooms, sanctuary, gym, kitchen, restrooms, and concession areas)
• Set up rooms for meetings and events (setting up and tearing down furniture arrangements for various functions scheduled in church facilities and classrooms)
• Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors
• Service, clean, and supply restrooms
• Gather and empty trash
• Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing or vacuuming them
• Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment, in order to prevent damage to floors and fixtures
• Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees
• Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications
• Clean and polish furniture and fixtures
• Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment
• Maintain organization and cleanliness of supply closets
• Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems
• Requisition supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties
• Other duties, as assigned by Head Custodian or Custodial Supervisors

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

Work schedule: Sunday through Thursday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Off Friday and Saturday. Evening, weekend and holiday duties also as needed.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to do the following:

• Must have good or corrected vision as well as effective peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
• Must have good manual dexterity and be able to use repetitive motion of the hands and arms
• Must be able to frequently stand and or walk for long periods of time
• Must be able to move about inside and outside the building to perform a variety of tasks
• Must be able to frequently and effectively communicate in both written and verbal form
• Must be able to lift at least 75 lbs. and push/pull carts/racks in excess of 100 lbs.

Education And Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Based on the company's needs, experience may be required

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Duties are performed in a variety of settings to include, outside, office, and technical settings where the work and general environment may be fast-paced and hectic at times. Therefore, it is essential that the employee can effectively handle the normal anxieties associated with the job and manage multiple projects in a service-oriented environment. Environmental noise levels are minimal.
